BEST WRESTLING VIDEO GAMES

By Kendall Jenkins on 2020-08-27 13:00:00

The sport of wrestling has inspired some awesome video games to play on your PC, console or mobile device. Here we look at 3 of our favourites of all time that we recommend to any die-hard wrestling fans who want a different kind of fix.

WWF No Mercy

There are literally hundreds of wrestling games on the market so to be one that regularly claims a place in the top 10 of all time, and often in the number 1 spot, it needs to be a pretty good product. WWF No Mercy is just that. What’s amazing is that this game was developed 20 years ago to be played on the Nintendo 64! And yes, despite competition from every other release that has come since, WWF No Mercy still holds its own. Whilst its graphics may look dated, in many ways No Mercy set the standard for everything that was to follow by being accessible to both seasoned wrestling fans and gamers, as well as those new to the sport. There are so many ways to enjoy No Mercy thanks to its many different wrestlers, it's ‘create-a-wrestler’ mode, different match types, and the many mods out there that allow you to add new and current wrestlers to the game.

In this instance, the old ones really are the best!

WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain

Ok, so if anyone finds some of the more traditional WWE games that stick to the rules to be a bit too tame, then they need to get on the P2 game, Here Comes The Pain, one of the most fun, exciting an downright crazy wrestling games we have ever played. In simple terms, developer Yukes decided here that just fighting in a ring and pulling the same old moves can be a little boring, so they introduced a whole lot of other scenarios and ways to inflict incredible damage on your opponent. These include elbow drops from a helicopter (that you just happened to be able to climb on board), and scaling a tall building from which to throw your opponent off. This is dizzying gamer wrestling taken to new levels, and much like No Mercy, Here Comes The Pain has managed to hold it’s against all the releases that have come since it first appeared way back in 2003. There are over 50 wrestlers to choose from, all taken from the roster at the time the game was created, and the depth of action and the surprises it regularly throws up make it one that must be played to be believed.

Luchadora Video Slot

Here’s a curveball we’ve thrown in for good measure: a video slot by Swedish game developer, Thunderkick. Mexican wrestling has been the inspiration for many gambling games like this, but Luchadora is one of the best. The objective of course is to line up identical symbols of wrestlers to unlock wins. The game can be played for free, or at a cost of just a few cents or pence. Thunderkick created a 5 reel by 4 row game where landing a wrestler symbols in any corner of the ‘ring’ increases your odds of winning as all other instances of that wrestler in the game become ‘wild’ symbols. It’s also possible to earn free plays by landing special bonus symbols simultaneously on the reels.

If you’re looking for a video game with that’s a little bit different from standard PS2 or Nintendo ones, then this video slot could be a great place to start. It’s available at most online slot sites and casinos. Just remember to gamble responsibly if you do choose to play.
