TOP TIPS FOR BETTING ON ESPORTS

By Kendall Jenkins on 2020-08-03 09:52:00

Wagering on sports has been around about as long as sporting events have existed. In ancient Rome betting on gladiators and chariot races was common. More recently placing bets on sporting events such as soccer and basketball was/is popular and made easier with the advent of online betting sites. Beginning in the 2000’s esports saw a rise in popularity and esports betting naturally became a thing. In 2019 esports gambling revenue was an estimated 7 billion dollars and that is expected to double to 14 billion dollars in 2020. The following are some tips for those tempted to dip their toes into esports betting that can improve your chances of coming out ahead.

  • Do Your Research: Whether you are planning to bet on CS: GO, League of Legends or some other esport, the more you know about the game the better your chances of picking a winning team. It definitely helps your understanding of the game if you play it yourself. Study teams records and history against different opponents and players stats. As the saying goes, knowledge is power, and the better informed you are the better your odds of winning.

  • Limit the eSports You Bet On: Specializing in one or two esports provides you with more time to thoroughly learn relevant information about your chosen game/games. It is better to be an expert on one particular esport than to only have limited knowledge of 5 or 6.

  • Be Objective: Most fans have a favourite team or player and there is nothing wrong with that. Just don’t place a bet on a team only because you happen to like them. That can be a recipe for disaster. Place bets objectively based on the research you have done.

  • Don’t Limit Yourself to Major Competitions: The big tournaments naturally get more attention and attract more bets. However you can often get better odds and find more lucrative opportunities betting on smaller competitions, especially if you have done your research.

  • Select the Right Betting Site: There are plenty of sites where you can place bets on esports and some are definitely better than others. You will want to consider a sites reputation, odds offered on matches/events, minimum and maximum allowed bets and methods for depositing and withdrawing funds among other things. Many sites also offer bonuses you can claim. For example when you use a csgoempire code when registering to their site you qualify for a bonus. It doesn’t hurt to have several preferred betting sites as odds can vary and not every site offers every event.

  • Start Small: It is natural to want to jump right in and get a big win but until you are familiar with all the ins and outs of betting on your chosen esport you should keep your wagers small. Familiarize yourself with the different types of bets and learn what betting strategies work for you. Gain experience by placing small bets until you are more confident in the choices you make.

  • Set a Budget: Nobody gambles with the intention of losing but it will happen. You should set a budget for the amount you are comfortable losing in a week/month and stick to it to avoid losing more than you can afford. If you find yourself unable to stick to the budget you have set then you probably shouldn’t be gambling.

Betting on esports can be enjoyable as long as you maintain your perspective and practice self control. Use these tips to improve your chances of placing winning wagers and above all have fun.
