BEST SMARTPHONES FOR MOBILE GAMING IN 2020

By Kendall Jenkins on 2020-04-20 07:35:00

Mobile gaming is now more popular than ever, but what are devices help provide the best experience possible? These six phones are top choices.

If you’re into mobile gaming you’re pretty tech savvy in the first place. But what if you want to enhance the experience of playing games online on your phone? You need to know what the best smartphones are to upgrade to.

You want a phone that can deliver graphics to replicate high definition, sound that is as clear as you might expect in a cinema and importantly a screen that is big enough to enjoy gaming with feeling the need to squint as you try to work out what you are actually looking at.

From specialist gaming phones that stand out from the crowd, to the best smartphones suited to people who are into mobile gaming…we run you through the top six options available we think could enhance your mobile gaming experience for differing reasons.

Razer Phone 2

Razer’s Phone 2 is the second generation of the device that gamers loved, and it has plenty of improvements made in the new model. Razer phones are gaming devices first, and smartphones second. They boast a seriously impressive 5.7-inch display screen with a 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. As far as display figures goes, that’s one of the best you can get. They work on the Android Operating System and are perfect for the gamers of this world. From a phone point of view, the camera is now dual lens at 12MP and 12MP for the rear camera too. With a Snapdragon 845 processor and 8GB of RAM, any overheating problems experienced with the first generation should now be a thing of the past. Razer have come up with the ultimate phone for gaming.

Asus Rog Phone

You’ve heard of the Asus laptops right? Well, now there is a smartphone too – and it is perfect for gamers. What Asus have done is taken all the high-quality performance of what they did best (laptops) and produced a phone with similar attributes. It’s not small, so you have to accept you getting a bit of a brick in terms of the actual phone itself, but with a 6.59-inch screen this really is what mobile gaming is all about. There is a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor and 12GB of RAM for supreme speed, as well as 90Hz refresh rate for decent quality graphics as you play. Plus the battery life is like no other, so if you like to game on the go this phone will stand out from the crowd.

iPhone XR

The iPhone 11 could have easily made this list, but rather than have two Apple devices in the shortlist we opted for the iPhone XR. For cost alone, the XR offers the best value that Apple sell. For starters, the screen has been made bigger than the previous model the iPhone XS and is now a 6.1-inch LCD offering – perfect for gaming. It also features the new A12 Bionic processor that Apple launched in all iPhones, and has 12MP camera too. Apple is a bit overlooked when it comes to devices used by gamers, who in general prefer Android smartphones, but the iPhone XR is an extremely worthy alternative. The one downside, as existing iPhone users will know all about, is the battery life which doesn’t match up to other rivals.

OnePlus 7 Pro

If you are not familiar with OnePlus, you should be. More phone than dedicated gaming device, the OnePlus 7 Pro is seriously impressive and has the qualities that hard-core gamers want in a smartphone. For a phone, the screen is huge at 6.67 inches and is the perfect shape and size to be playing games online. It has the same Snapdragon 855 processor as the Asus Rog Phone, and like the others in this list features 12GB of RAM. With a 90Hz refresh rate, the performance and graphics, therefore, are impressive. The even better thing with the OnePlus 7 Pro is the fact it is compatible with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers to enhance the audio experience. OnePlus have also come up with a “Gaming Mode” setting to block any other activity on the phone while you are gaming. You can expect to enjoy uninterrupted gaming time with this standout device.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy needs no introduction. After all, it is one of the most popular smartphones on the market. The model we think is best suited to gaming is the S20 Plus, which also has an Ultra version for a little bit more outlay if your finances allow. As has been the case for quite some time, the Galaxy devices are all about the size of the screen and the S20 Plus is no different. It comes with a 6.67-inch screen which is ideal for gaming. There’s 120Hz refresh rate, as big as our top selection the Razer Phone 2, and a processor that will either be Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865 depending on your global location. The 8GB of RAM is the only thing smaller when compared to our other shortlisted devices. Yes the Samsung Galaxy is a phone first. But don’t let you think it isn’t a great choice for gaming.

Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro

The Xiaomi Black Shark 3 Pro might not trip off the tongue and be an automatic choice that gamers head for when buying a new smartphone, but it should be in the mix. The Pro is the better version of this model, but if money is tight then the Shark 3 is equally impressive. But we’re recommending the Pro because it still ranks highly in the value for money stakes. The 7.1-inch screen is the biggest of anything in our list, and the resolution is 1,440 x 3,120 and ideal for anyone gaming online. It features an AirTrigger button on the edges of the phone for a more gaming-friendly feel while player and is just a general good all-rounder that packs a punch for the price. It’s a big phone, but if you are going to be using it predominantly for gaming then the Shark 3 Pro should be on your radar.
