DOES KURT ANGLE GET BACK IN THE RING, WRESTLING BOOKS THAT I'D LIKE TO SEE, THE MOST UNDERRATED PROMOTERS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-04-23 10:00:00

Out of all the released WWE talents, is there anyone you'd like to see write a book about their careers?  Any WWE Hall of Famers you'd like to see?

I really would love to see Dave Finlay write a book about his family involvement in professional wrestling, which goes back to his grandfather.  Finlay has lived through so many highs and lows of the global scene that he'd probably have an interesting eye to view the business through.

I always thought Don Muraco, Barry Windham and Tully Blanchard would all each write a hell of a book too.  Maybe one day!

Do you think Kurt Angle gets back in the ring?

Yeah, I do.  I think that if you asked him now, he would say he's retired and done.  How he feels when his 90 day non-compete expires and offers begin to pop up, we will see, but I can see it for this reason - WWE opted to retire him.  It wasn't something Angle asked for and I've always heard rumblings he wasn't thrilled with how that all went down.  Now, he's free to command a nice payday if he wants to get back in the ring.  I can see Angle working big matches around the country with a lot of talents that are out there now.  I'd like to see Angle vs. Chris Hero, for one.  Angle vs. Hangman Page or Kenny Omega would be cool too, on paper, if Angle felt he could be up for it physically.  Angle against PCO or Marty Scurll or Dan Maff in ROH sounds fun to me as well.  I don't think anyone should expect the Kurt Angle of 2001 to pop up in the ring and I don't see him ever wrestling regularly but could he pop up for a few big matches down the line?  Yeah, I can totally see that, especially if they are attached to a nice payday.

Who do you think are the most underrated promoters?

Of all time?  I have always felt that out of everyone, Tod Gordon and Cary Silkin have never gotten the respect or praise they deserve outside of the circle of talents that worked for them for trying to create something for pro wrestling fans, giving them something special and unique and putting their own money and sanity on the line just because they each, with the creation of ECW and in Silkin's case, the rescue of Ring of Honor, loved professional wrestling.

Today?  I have long felt that on an independent level, Dan McDevitt's MCW far overachieves with the quality of their shows, the professionalism of their events and the level of talent they bring in to make fans happy in Maryland and have never gotten the level of exposure they deserve.  I also feel that NYWC, which as a school has produced so many great talents including Tony Nese, Zack Ryder, Trent Beretta, etc. still remains far under the radar.  APW in California is another promotion that has done great business and puts on great shows.  So is AAW in Chicago.  So is John Thorne's AIW in Cleveland.  There are LOTS of promoters who remain underrated.  I am sure there are groups out there I have never seen who would fall under the radar as well.  If you love a local promotion, you probably feel they are underrated and you wouldn't be long.

Whatever happened to Dawn Marie?

Dawn is retired from pro wrestling and now working as a nurse in New Jersey.  She remains active on social media.

Has there been any talk of Velvet McIntyre ever being honored in the WWE Hall of Fame?

I have never heard that talk, but honestly, she was a great wrestler and deserves to be remembered as such.  I could see the company adding her to the Legacy Wing at some point, but I'd love to see her get some recognition and have the chance to give a speech about her career, so let's hope she does get a Hall of Fame induction one day.
