WRESTLEMANIA IN TAMPA CANCELED, FLAGSHIP PPV TO BROADCAST FROM WWE PERFORMANCE CENTER

By Mike Johnson on 2020-03-16 19:13:00

WWE just issued the following:

WWE statement regarding WrestleMania 36

In with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.

As PWInsider.com reported earlier today, there was a pitch over the weekend for this to happen.  WWE is effectively forgoing its biggest gate of the year by not postponing to a later date.  As we noted earlier, Vince McMahon has been said to be "adamant" that Wrestlemania 36 occurs on 4/5.

One would expect WWE Hall of Fame, AXXESS and Takeover: Tampa Bay events will follow suit with tickets for all four events refunded.  There is no word whether NXT and HOF will also migrate to the PC.

UPDATE: HOF and NXT will not take place as scheduled.

With this move, expect WWN's WrestlExpo to cancel their events as well as they had stated they would follow WWE's lead.
