EVOLVE PUTTING ON A FREE SHOW SATURDAY, WHAT COULD HAVE KEPT JIM CROCKETT PROMOTIONS AROUND AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2020-02-28 10:00:00

Why would EVOLVE run a free show the same time as AEW Revolution?

Well, the show is prior to Revolution and as Gabe Sapolsky said, they need eyeballs on their brand.  While they have the WWE connection, they are still an independent promotion where every fan helps the bottom line.

Who, in your opinion, performed the best Tiger Mask?

I think for most people, the answer will be the first version that you personally saw.  For me, I have to go with the original Satoru Sayama.  He set the bar in my opinion.

The downfall of Jim Crockett Promotions has been fairly well documented over the years. A lot of common mistakes that sped up the death. If someone would've prevented some or all of those mistakes, would Vince McMahon still find a way to wipe them out?

It's impossible to say what would have happened, but Ric Flair has often said that if the company had stayed East of the Mississipi River, nothing would have killed Crockett Promotions.  He may be right.  The company just stretched themselves too thin, locking themselves into contracts with balloon payments they couldn't meet and buying territories they could have just let die and then moved into.  At the end of the day, the WWF had proven themselves to be the top branded company, so they were going to get the attention, the sponsorships, the licensing, etc. and at the end of the day, it was probably just a matter of time.

Any word on a AEW video game coming out of Toy Fair?

Nothing at this juncture.  You KNOW that Kenny Omega wants there to be a great one.

With Steve Austin doing more with WWE, do you think we will finally get a return match?

He's been retired since Wrestlemania 19.  I really, sincerely, don't think Austin wants to come back and do anything.  He's obviously had an open door and never entered it, plus, you don't know if he'd even pass the current day WWE medical in order to get cleared.  I think Austin will stay retired.
