SCOTT VS. MENDOZA, LIO RUSH FACES THE SINGHS, BREEZE VS. DAIVARI AND MORE: WWE 205 LIVE REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2020-01-18 12:55:00

205 Live opened with a video package showcasing Isaiah Scott earning his spot at Worlds Collide.

The announcers this week are Jon Quasto and Mansoor, who is sitting in for Aiden English this week.

Tyler Breeze pinned Ariya Daivari with the Beauty Shot.  This was a good back and forth match.  Daivari had the advantage early until Breeze caught him with an atomic drop.  Each competitor was pretty entertaining mocking the other.  They battled to the outside, where Daivari was whipped into the ringside barrier.  Daivari regained control and nailed a double stomp off the ropes.  They went back and forth until Daivari was backdropped to the floor.  He made it back to the ring at the last second.  Breeze worked him over with several punches and then a dropkick for a two count.  Daivari tried to curb his momentum by sending Breeze into the referee but Breeze was able to save himself.  Daivari snatched him into a big Uranage for a two count.  Breeze caught Daivari charging in with a superkick for a CLOSE two count.  They went back and forth with a series of reversals until Breeze finally nailed the Beauty Shot.

This was a great back and forth match.

Lio Rush pinned Sunil Singh with the Final Hour Frog Splash from the top rope.  The Bollywood Boys were outside dancing so Rush wiped them out with a tope, which was a nice start to the match.  Rush worked over Sunil until Samir distracted him.  Rush was knocked to the outside and sent into the ring post.  Sunil worked him over for awhile and cinched in a rear chinlock.  Rush fired away with elbows to escape and nailed a big boot to the face. Rush went for a dive but Samir got in the way.  The Singhs tried to pull the old Killer Bees Masked Confusion but the referee was too smart for that and ejected Samir.  Rush laid out Sunil and sailed off the top with the frog splash for the pin.

Another good match, this time with some fun silliness from the Singhs.  Rush can just go.

They recapped that on next week’s NXT UK. Ligero vs. Jordan Devlin and Brian Kendrick vs. Travis Banks will determine the other slots for the Cruiserweight title bout at Worlds Collide.

Isaiah Scott pinned Raul Mendoza with The House Call.  This was good, but there was never, ever any doubt who was going over, so the drama was minimized.  They each played to the crowd early and had some good back and forth action, hitting armdrags on the other before facing off.  Mendoza was dropkicked out of the ring but prevented Scott from hitting a dive.  He returned to the ring and they scored near falls on the other.  Scott looked good with a quebrada and a springboard rana.  Mendoza knocked him to the floor and nailed a dive.  Scott rolled out of the way of a Phoenix Splash attempt and nailed the House Call Kick for the win.

Another really good main event and a really good episode overall.  I just wish someone in WWE realized what they had and this show wasn’t treated like Oliver on the Brady Bunch.
