TRIBUTE TO THE TROOPS UPDATE

By Mike Johnson on 2019-12-12 11:23:00

For the first time in many years, the USA Network is not scheduled to air this year's WWE Tribute to the Troops special.  There is no word whether the special will air anywhere else.  We are told that internally, it has not been discussed as a WWE Network special over the last few days, but obviously, that could change since WWE controls their own programming there.

If the show does not broadcast, it will be the first time since the advent of the Tribute to the Troops concept that it does not air on broadcast or cable television.

Held annually since December 2003, the Tribute to the Troops event first began as a USO tour put together by WWE where they would bring a live event over to American troops stationed in the Middle East and tour different bases meeting with servicemen and women.   Over the years, Tribute events have been held in Iraq and Afghanistan before moving to domestic locations starting with 2010.  Since 2010, the show has evolved into a patriotic event designed to celebrate those who have entered into military service for the United States.   The Tribute events have led to WWE being honored by the USO, The Army and Air Force Exchange Program and the G.I. Combat Film Festival and other accolades..

WWE taped the 2019 version on 12/6 in Jacksonville, North Carolina at Marine Corps Air Station New River, featuring these bouts and others:

*Erik Rowan vs. Seth Rollins in a Boot Camp Match.

*The Kabuki Warriors vs. Sarah Logan & Natalya.

*Kevin Owens & Humberto Carrillo vs, Drew McIntyre & Andrade.

Mark Henry, Alexa Bliss, Braun Strowman, Nikki Cross, and Lacey Evans, among others were also involved in the 2019 Tribute to the Troops event.
