MAJOR LEAGUE WRESTLING NEWS AND NOTES COMING OUT OF OPERA CUP

By Mike Johnson on 2019-12-06 11:17:00

As noted earlier, Major League Wrestling announced the release of Teddy Hart.  Hart was not at the Opera Cup last night, which is telling given that the Cup was inherited by him from his Grandfather Stu Hart.  My gut is that the announcement was planned and not something that came out of left field.

ACH returned in New York City last night and will be appearing regularly going forward, including the 1/11/20 Dallas event.

There was some talk last night that the 2/29/20 Chicago event may be pushed back due to some logistical issues.  The promotion will make a final determination within the next few weeks.

With Chris DeJoseph leaving for WWE, Matt Ryan of Capitol Wrestling, who works as a manager for a number of Northeast wrestling promotions, was brought in to help produce pre-tapes and work in the gorilla position.

Mark Adam Haggerty, who debuted as the company’s ring announcer last night, noted on his social media that to the best of his knowledge, he was the first openly gay man to be a televised promotion's ring announcer in pro wrestling history.  Haggerty wrote, “I was told by a fan that my debut with MLW tonight marks the first time an openly gay man has served as ring announcer for an American wrestling television product. While I’m finding it hard to fact check, I’m certainly proud whether I’m first, second, third, whatever. As long as I’m not last.”

Alicia Atout officially debuted for the promotion last night as an interviewer and did a really good job.

Mike Kitlas, who has worked for the Madison Square Garden organization, is now working here on the live event/logistical end of the company.

Last night’s TV taping was once again sold out.  MLW will return to the Melrose Ballroom on 7/16/20.

MLW was selling a special one of a kind Opera Cup canvas signed by all the competitors for $100.  It was such a nice piece that whoever ended up with it should really treasure it.

They were also selling a signed Saturday Night Superfight PPV poster for $50.

The legendary wrestling photographer George Napolitano was at the Opera Cup last night, shooting ringside.

Announced for the 1/11 Dallas event is Jimmy Havoc vs. Mance Warner in a barbed wire match.

Set for Saturday's MLW Fusion TV on BeINSports:

*Hart Foundation's Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr. vs. CONTRA Unit

*A Battle Royal.

*Swamp Fight: Savio Vega vs. “Outlaw” Leo Brien
