JOEY JANELA VS. KENNY OMEGA UNSANCTIONED MATCH & MORE: AEW DARK REPORT

By Anthony Pires on 2019-10-15 22:34:00

Kenny Omega interrupts a Young Bucks interview to tell them that he's arranged a lights out match between himself and Joey Janela for later in the show.  He told the Bucks he wanted a match since he didn't get to wrestle on Dynamite.  The Bucks suggested an easy enhancement match so he could pick up an easy win in the records after getting his head smashed through a glass table by Jon Moxley.  He then said he wanted Janela in an Unsanctioned match.  The Bucks acted like he crazy and Omega said he didn't think they'd understand.

You host is Tony Schiavone, who immediately throws the action to the ring.

Jim Ross and Excalibur are calling the action

Kip Sabian vs. The Librarian Peter Avalon vs. The Concrete Rose Sonny Kiss.

Easy cheap heat for Avalon as he runs down Boston sports on his way to the ring, running down the Red Sox and Bruins.  Kiss is definitely the choice of the fans.  Sabian and Kiss double team Avalon to the outside then attempt move after move on each other that they both counter.  Kiss get the advantage with a jawbreaker and a slap.  Avalon attacks both from behind and throws Sabian out of the ring and takes over with a rear chinlock on Kiss.  Avalon with punches in the corner.  Avalon charges Sabian and Sabian meets him with a kick.  Sabian kicks Kiss away and his a cannonball dive over the top on Avalon.  Sabian looks to have dislocated his finger.  Avalon takes over on Kiss.  Avalon with puches into the corner, Sabian with a running dropkick on Avalon.  Sabian attempts a pin on both Avalon and Kiss with a combination leg roll on Kiss/Northern Lights to Avalon.  Avalon with a neckbreaker and tries a pin on both but only gets 2.  Face buster by Kiss on Avalon for 2.  Avalon tries a rolling reverse.  Leva Bates swings a book at Kiss and misses badly, but Kiss sells it but kicks out at 2.  That looked really bad.   Sabian hits the Deathly Hallows on Avalon for the pin.

Winner: Kip Sabian

Tony throws us right back to the ring:

Hybrid2 (Jack Evans and Angelico) & The Dark Order (Stu Grayson and Evil Uno) vs SCU (Scorpio Sky, Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels) and CIMA

The Creepers are out in full force making Uno his human throne. Strangely no "Worst town" singalong.  CIMA and Angelico start off.  Excalibur brings up Ultimo Dragon as both men's mentor.  CIMA with dropkicks and a crucifix for 2.  Daniels tags in.  Angeico kicks Daniels and tags in Grayson.  Dropkick by Grayson.  Uno with a kick from the outside.  Daniels with an STO into a tilt a whirl.  Kazarian is in.  The heels attack and we're left back with Evand and Daniels.  Grayson back in with a slam, tags in Uno.  Uno with a rake to the back.  Hybrid2 with a double team.  High kick by Angelico for 2.  Grayson tags back in.  Jawbreaker counter by Daniels, Uno with the blind tag, stops Daniels from tagging out.  Grayson with a big top rope clothesline for 2.  Evans tags in.  Daniels gets thrown back and forth into the turnbuckles.  Eye poke by Evans.  Daniels counters a slam to a modified powerbomb.  Kaz tags in.  Dropkicks to Grayson.  Kazarian goes for a rolling reverse but Uno comes in to break it up.  Kazarian sees this and hits a spear on Evil Uno.  Kazarian hits a stunner/DDT combo on the Dark Order, Dark Order retreats.  Kazarian with a hurancanrana to Grayson sending Grayson into Uno.  Hybrid2 gets involved by CIMA and Sky fly over the top and hit them on the floor.  Sky eats a knee strike by Grayson. Kazarian hits a stunner on Grayson.  Daniels gets involved and hits Uno with Angels Wings.  All eight are now involved and the referee has lost all control.  Sky and Evans are now in.  Angelico with a low blow on the interference while the refs back in turned.  Evans rolls up Sky for the pin.

WINNERS: Hybrid2 and the Dark Order.

Commercial for Full Gear.

Joey Janela vs Kenny Omega in a Lights Out Match

We have the traditional dimming of the lights to signify the end of the "official" show.  No idea why this first time match is no disqualification.  Excalibur and Ross are wondering if Omega has a concussion after the attack by Pac.  Not a great look.  Janela immediately pulls out a chair but Omega stops him.  Exchange of chops into the corner.  Janela gets Omega out of the ring and hits a tope suicida. They brawl on the outside.  More chairs thrown in by Janela.  Here comes a ladder.  Ross is kind of mocking this.  Janela stacks the chairs .  Omega attacks with chops.  Janela throws a chair and connects with Omega's head (hands up)  Omega hits a crusher on the chairs, not showing any effects of the chairshot moments earlier.  Janela to the outside and Omega hits his tope over the top.  Omega banged his ankle hard on the rail.  Omega whips Janela into the stairs.  Omega brings a table into the ring.  Omega with a missile dropkick from behind back into the ring.  Omega with his fireman carry slam into a moonsault for 2.  Omega hits a snap dragon suplex.  Back to the outside on the apron, Omega lifts Janela into a fireman carry but Janela counters it.  Snap dragon suplex onto the ring apron.  I hope Janela is saving every penny he makes.  Omega sets up the OWA on the outside but Janela hits a belly to back suplex off the stairs.

Janela sets up the stairs and pulls out another table.  Janela bridges the table between the ring on the stairs. The table face down.  This will hurt. Back in the ring, Janela throws Omega into the ladder..  Janela tries it again and Omega hits and elbow for 2.  Forearm exchanges.  Janella counters a V Trigger into a clothesline for 2.  Janela hits a superplex off the top.  I can't understand why Omega is in this particular type of match, given his feud with Moxley and Pac. Janela with a Death Valley Driver into the ladder.  Table and ladder are now set up .  Janela misses a frog splash through the table.  Ross comments how its the best match AEW has presented.  Spinebuster by Omega for 2.  V Trigger by Omega.  Janela escapes the OWA.  Clothesline by Omega.  DDT by Omega for 2.  Janela survives all of this and sends Omega over the top through the bridged table.  Janela hits a diving foot stomp on a chair for 2.  Back and forth punches.  Janella get the advantage and sets the chairs up and lays Omega on them (chairs are set up back to back).  Omega escapes and attempts a superplex.  Janela punches out of it but Omega hits a body slam though the chairs.  One-Winged Angel on to the chair.  Omega gets the pin.

WINNER: Kenny Omega

Opinion: I seriously have to question the decision making progress in sending one of the biggest stars in all of wrestling out there to wrestle a prelim guy in a 25-minute Hardcore match scenario when said star is going to be relied upon heavily to draw a paying audience.  Janela is going to kill himself.  One would think a billionaire and his EVPs would maybe consider toning down the danger for a YouTube match.

Note from Mike Johnson:  I am told the idea was that Omega was testing himself against Janela in a hardcore match as preparation for his Full Gear PPV match against Jon Moxley.

Tony Schiavone thanks us all for watching.
