NICK ALDIS, JAMES STORM, KEN ANDERSON, EDDIE KINGSTON, HOMICIDE, THE FORMER DAMIEN SANDOW, TIM STORM, ALYSSIN KAY & MORE: 9/30 NWA POWER TV TAPING LIVE REPORT FROM ATLANTA, GA (SPOILERS)

By Larry Goodman on 2019-10-01 12:42:00

The National Wrestling Alliance taped the first four hours of content for their NWA POWER show at the Georgia Public Broadcasting Studios in Atlanta on Monday night 9/30.

NWA POWER will run Tuesday nights at 6:05 pm ET starting October on the NWA YouTube channel and Facebook page starting October 8th. The show will also be available on Fite.TV every Saturday night.  Billy Corgan also announced the NWA will be returning to Atlanta for a PPV on December 14.

The NWA could not have asked for a better audience for their debut taping. The crowd of 180 totally embraced the studio wrestling concept and responded enthusiastically to every segment for almost four hours with no intermission.  All the stars got star reactions. The riser section was packed and should look great on the hard camera shot.

Most matches were under 5 minutes. Only the NWA World Heavyweight Title match between Champion Nick Aldis and former champion Tim Storm went more than 10.

The studio look was modeled on the NWA World Championship Wrestling show from the early 80s with Jim Cornette and Joe Galli on commentary and David Marquez as the host.  It was a four camera shoot.

Hour #1

The first hour opened with a promo at the desk by Aldis (with Kamilla Kane).  Aldis addressed his upcoming title match with Tim Storm.

--The Dawsons (Dave & Zane) defeated Billy Buck & Sal Rinauro in a quick squash with a double team finisher on Rinauro and did short promo saying they were in the NWA to fight.

Eli Drake promo at the desk. Talking points: The NWA had grown men not a bunch of kids and he was coming for championships. The crowd was all about Eli.

-- Eli Drake pinned Caleb Konley with the Gravy Train in a very good match.

Jocephus accosted the commentary team demanding the presence of NWA National Champion James Storm…and he got it…Storm told Jocephus to go back to his desk job.  They teased going at it and Jocephus was not unhappy when it was broken up.

-- NWA Tag Team Champions The Wildcards (Royce Isaacs & Thomas Latimer) squashed unnamed enhancement wrestlers.

The Wildcards’ postmatch promo at the desk was interrupted by Eddie Kingston, who called Latimer “Bram” and referred to Isaacs as “Royce bud”. Kingston was joined by Homicide.  It was getting heated when Jocephus burst through the curtain with James Storm in hot pursuit leading to…

--James Storm defeated Jocephus with a superkick in 20 seconds. Storm nailed Jocephus with another superkick and left him laying with his thumb stuck in his mouth.

Tim Storm was interviewed at ringside by Galli. Tim said 6:05 Saturday night defined wrestling for him as a kid. He talked about his 94 year old mother worrying about him getting hurt.  Said it was a tough decision to accept the title match with the stipulation that it was his last shot at Aldis but nothing was more important to him than the NWA title. Great stuff.

--Nick Aldis (with Kamilla) defeated Tim Storm to retain the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.  Crowd was pulling hard for Tim, chanting “Mama Storm” which became a thing for the rest of the show.  Aldis accidentally leveled Kamilla with a clothesline just before the finish.

Galli interviewed Aldis at the desk. Galli tried to ask Kamilla how she was. Aldis cut Galli off and said to save the clickbait stuff for another day.

Crowd gave Tim a standing ovation and chanted “Perfect Storm”.

Hour #2:

Aron Stevens promo. Stevens talked about being away from wrestling with his acting career when he heard about NWA studio wrestling coming back.  It was sunshine and rainbows until Stevens invoked a no eye contact rule to turn heel.

--Ricky Starks defeated Trevor Murdoch with a flying crucifix

Starks cut an ultra-confident babyface promo talking about his ability and looks.  “God didn’t have a lot of beauty left after me.”

Colt Cabana came to the desk. Said James Storm took the NWA National Championship from him when he wasn’t 100% and he was in the NWA for championships.  Ken Anderson came out as Cabana’s partner for the next match.

--Cabana and Anderson defeated Sal Rinauro & Jordan Kingsley when Anderson pinned Rinauro with the Mic Check. Kingsley took great bumps for the stars.

Galli’s interview with Magnus from the first hour was replayed.  Cornette’s double entendres were hilarious.

--NWA Women’s Champion Allysin Kay defeated Ashley Vox in a non-title match with a reverse piledriver.

Kay told Vox “you did good kid but your good wasn’t good enough today” and blew off her handshake.

Galli interviewed James Storm at the desk. James said the National Championship was a prop to get him in the world title picture.  Drake interrupted telling James not to minimize the National Championship because that put him next in line for the world title. Drake said Magnus was ducking them and told James to remember your boy if got the title from Magnus.

--Eddie Kingston & Homicide vs. Wildcards was a no contest when Dawsons attacked both teams. Dawsons generated as much heel heat as anybody on the show.

Hour 3:

Stevens was interviewed by Galli. Stevens was out in a pirate outfit to promote his new “Tropical Pirates” straight to DVD movie (VHS in Romania). Crowd was merciless with the “Captain Morgan” chant.  Stevens said when it came to acting, he had more chops than Ric Flair.

Kingston marched to the commentary desk to demand a match with the Dawsons before they got their title shot at Wildcards.

--Marti Belle pinned Crystal Rose with a pedigree.

Dawsons came to the desk and informed Marquez they would accept a match with anyone except Kingston and Homicide.

--Caleb Konley pinned Tad Parker after a double jump moonsault.

Tim Storm was interviewed at the desk. Tim thanked Aldis for the title shot and credited the 10 Pounds of Gold videos with changing the perception of him and the NWA title. Another “Mama Storm” chant broke out. Tim said he had a decision to make about his future.

Drake joined in and said Mama Storm would be more concerned about her son giving up than getting hurt.  Drake asked Tim to be his partner against Dawsons later tonight. Tim said he would think about it.

Jocephus came to ringside with a bag claiming he wanted to make a public apology to James Storm. Cabana came out instead saying “sorry about your damn gimmick”.  Jocephus threw powder in Cabana’s eyes. James showed up to lay Jocephus out with another superkick. James turned his attention to Cabana but Anderson ran out and pulled Cabana out of the ring.

Aldis was interviewed by Galli about his next title challenger. Galli again wanted to talk with Kamilla. Aldis said Kamilla could speak whenever. Kamilla said nothing. Aldis said when Kamilla felt like speaking, Galli would be the first to know.

--Dawsons defeated Eli Drake and Tim Storm when Zane pinned Tim after the Dawson’s combo finisher.

Kingston & Homicide drove Dawsons from the ring with fans chanting “stab ‘em up”.

Aldis helped Tim to the back.

Hour 4:

Trevor Murdoch promo.  Murdoch didn’t want Jocephus suspended for 45 days for using powder.  He wanted a match with Jocephus to secure his NWA contract. Jocephus said he was sick of Corgan’s humiligations and shapeshifters.

--Trevor Murdoch defeated Jocephus to win an NWA contract. Jocephus’ use of powder backfired thanks to Murdoch, who then pinned him with a bulldog off the ropes.

Stevens did another interview invoking the “no eye contact” rule. Starks came out. Stevens asked if he wanted to be his stunt double.  Starks slapped him.

A number one contender’s match for the women’s title was set up by interviews at the desk with Belle, Vox and Kay.

--Ashley Vox defeated Marti Belle via a jackknife pin with Kay at ringside.  Belle refused to accept a handshake from Vox after the match.

Thunder Rosa appeared and offered to shake Belle’s hand. She refused.

The stand up opening for the 4th hour was taped out of sequence with Cornette and Galli at the desk with James Storm and Drake. The crowd popped hard just for Cornette coming to the desk to do the segment. James said Magnus was ducking him and Cabana was jumping on the bandwagon.  Drake was egging James on. That brought Magnus out. He dismissed Storms’ comments as alcohol fueled nonsense and said Drake’s only vice was that he wanted to be like him. They set up a six man main event with the following stips: If Storm’s team won, he earned a shot at Magnus and the world title. If Magnus’ team won, Cabana got a shot at James and the national title. Magnus added the stip that James would have to abdicate the National title to take his world title shot.

--Dawsons defeated Kingston & Homicide after interference by Wildcards in a no DQ match.  Chairs were brought in play. “Stab ‘em up”chants abounded. The champions, who had been watching from the desk, decided to take matters into their own hands. Isaacs gave Kingston a DVD into a pile of chairs and he was pinned by Dave Dawson.

-- Ricky Starks pinned Aron Stevens with an O’Connor Roll in a quick match.

-- James Storm & Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs defeated Nick Aldis & Colt Cabana & Mr. Anderson.  A tremendous sequence ended with all six men down received a standing ovation and a “NWA” chant. Cabana scored the pinfall on Latimer and earned a National Championship rematch with James Storm.

The taping concluded with the fans chanting “NWA”.  VIP fans cued up for the post-show meet & greet.

NOTES:

Billy Corgan addressed the fans before the final hour to thank them for making it an awesome experience for David Lagana and himself and how the wrestlers were blown away by the crowd energy. Corgan also joked about the NWA owning the Mama Storm character…Scott Steiner and Raven stopped by to visit with Corgan at the taping…The referees were Brian Hebner, Robert King and Mike Posey…Crimson/Mayweather was part of the production team….“Tailor the Stars” Rick Michaels worked on gear.
