Beyond Wrestling “Uncharted Territory: Episode 16”

7/17/19 Worcester, MA

We are less than two weeks away from Americanrana and there’s a lot of cards in play tonight and several exciting matchups ahead of us! Paul Crockett and Sidney Bakabella are on commentary.

Match 1: John Silver vs Leyla Hirsch

Speaking of exciting matchups! Leyla has had a great last few weeks and Silver is always fire. This should be a war. They scramble for a few minutes, trading submission holds until Hirsch makes the mistake of showing her guns. Silver fires up, he’s freakin’ jacked, and shoulder tackles Leyla to the mat. Silver works holds again but Leyla catches a leapfrog into a powerbomb and dives after. Leyla gets some shots in but Silver catches her moonsault into a turnbuckle lawn dart. Owwwww. The ref is checking on her but she waves him off and baits Silver “come on motherf***er”. Silver obliges, and lays in his trademark chest kicks but misses the single foot cover on a two count. Hirsch up with some big Germans and a lariats for a hot two count. She goes for the armbar but Silver slams her into the second turnbuckle, running boot and a suplex for a near fall. Leyla throwing shots from the ground but the Meat Man just clubs her down. She’s up but Silver hit a big boot! She catches him running into a deep armbar! Silver is in it a long time but fights to the ropes. Out to the apron, she hits a pair of Germans to the edge. Picture perfect moonsault....Silver kicks out! Foot wash to the back of the head from Silver and he hits a huge spin out powerbomb....kick out by a razor! Silver on the top, Hirsch Germans him of but he lands on his feet and hits a punt kick for the three count!

Winner: John Silver

Match started slow but built into a nice hot fight. Hirsch’s progression in Beyond has been awesome so far. Uh oh, Alex Reynolds is out to stomp out his former Beaver Boys partner. Hirsch makes the save with a German but Reynolds pops up with a superkick to lay her out. Silver stops Reynolds from doing more and sends him running to the back.

Match 2: The Butcher & The Blade (Andy Williams & Pepper Parks) vs American Strong (Jay Freddie & Rory Gulak)

American Strong is out in Catch Point attire. Rory is getting worked over early until Freddie and Williams tag in and go big beefy chop for big beefy chop. Realizing he’s outmatched for power, Freddie slides through into a pin attempt and stays ahead of Williams with his speed. Gulak tries to follow suit but Williams ain’t having it. Pepper gets a bite before Williams hits a big uranage and tries to choke Rory out. Big gut wrench suplex with a dropkick combo for a two count. Gulak dodges a clothesline and escapes. Freddie in to clean house. Big blockbuster stunner on Parks and a side slam for a near fall. Gulak springboards off Parks to dive at Williams. Double undertook facebuster and a splash for another near fall. Williams in to slam Gulak through the pin, good thing Parks made the kickout. Shoulder block powerbomb to Gulak. Suplex backstabber to Freddie, who eats the pin.

Winners: Butcher & Blade

Solid match here. I like this more serious incarnation of America Strong. Couple of spots that felt off time but overall solid hard-hitting work from Buffalo’s big boys, who are preparing for a match with the Rock and Roll Express at Americanrana!

It’s Discovery Gauntlet time! You gotta win it to stay in it! Will Christian Casanova remain undefeated? Tonight’s test is Buffalo’s Daniel Garcia!

Match 3: Christian Casanova (w/ Cam Zagami) vs “Red Death” Daniel Garcia

Zagami is knocked off the apron immediately. Casanova gets in his opponent’s face. Garcia blasts Casanova with a piledriver and wraps up a DEEEEEEEP sharpshooter for a tap out while Zagami stands powerless at ringside. Casanova just got destroyed. WHAT?!?!

Winner: Daniel Garcia

Zagami tries to suck up to Garcia at the end but gets DVD’d to the buckles. What? All intensity! What just happened! What a pop for the tap out! Garcia declares himself the new king of the mound and leaves. What a moment! XD

Match 4: Chris Dickinson vs Fred Yehi

They trade slaps and go right to it, with hard shots and shoulder blocks. Dickinson takes over and lands some hellacious kicks to Yehi’s back. More clubbing blows as Yehi tries to fire up. Fred pops up to club the Dirty Daddy down, hitting a destroyer for a near fall. Dickinson battered on the outside and dragging in for a corner cannonball. Chris firing back up as they trade chops and hit hits a backdrop. Trading chops again and Dickinson hits a big lariat and an AA for a near fall. Dragon screw and German suplex for another two count. Dickinson trying to go for a piledriver but Yehi squirms out. Yehi catches Dickinson in a crucifix choke but we get a rope break. Yehi with a backstabber but Dickinson back with a suplex and lariat for a two count. Another near fall until Dickinson has had enough and hits the Pazuzu bomb for the pin.

Winner: Chris Dickinson

What a banger of a match! This felt like a direct preview of the energy I expect from his Daisuke Sekimoto match at Americanrana. Dickinson goes for his customary show of respect post-match but Yehi just kicks him in the balls, to the dismay and seething vitriol of the Worcester crowd. They say “don’t come back”. With that reaction, I’m sure he will. ;)

Match 5: Nick Gage & Thomas Santell vs Richard Holliday & Ken Doane

It’s Worcester’s Most Hated going against explosive crowd favorites in Gage and Santell, who have a pair of Receipts for them. Unsurprisingly, Santell and Gage tear into the men who have ambushed them for several consecutive weeks. Santel has the sugar hold on Ken Doane and he’s tapping but Ref Quinn was improbably knocked to the outside in the skirmish. Holliday recovers to help Doane double team Santell while Gage gets Quinn back up to restore order. Doane and Holliday do a great job isolating Santell for a lot of damage before Gage tags in to destroy everything. Doane gets tossed, Holliday gets the face wash and Santell with a running knee for a near fall. Doane stalls the fire by crouching Santell on the top rope. Gage is getting double-teamed. Holliday gets Santell in an electric chair but the Nerd rolls through and gets the pin!

Winners: Thomas Santell & Nick Gage

Loved it. I love this tandem so far and their opponents were perfect heels in this hot sprint of a match. Santell also loves this pairing and asks Gage to be his partner against Bryan Alvarez and Filthy Tom Lawlor at Americanrana! They also have a match with Casanova and Zagami next week...and this tandem, now dubbed NERD DEATH KILL, will be ready to kick their....butts.

Match 6: Wheeler Yuta vs Brandon Thurston

Buffalo is strong tonight! Thurston and Yuta engage in some aggressive technical grappling for much of this. Thurston keeps Yuta down and stretches him in several different ways. They stand up to trade shots until Yuta finally hits a drop kick and enziguri. Yuta dives but eats a saito suplex for a two count. Yuta struggles back but runs face first into the turnbuckle and another German. Thurston hits another German but Yuta rolls through and bridges for the three count!

Winner: Wheeler Yuta

Good technical match here. Thurston always looks intense as he struggles through holds and Yuta looked great working on the defensive. Chuck O’Neil hits the ring immediately at the bell and beats up everyone, including refs and ringboys. Finally, O’Neil is standing y’all as we head to the big show. Yuta will want payback soon.

Match 7: Kris Statlander v Solo Darling

Last week, Statlander announced her match with Kimber Lee at Americanrana but Solo got in her face, upset at being overlooked all these weeks and asked for this match tonight against the Alien. We get the ET finger touch and Solo wraps up Statlander’s legs immediately. Not to be outdone, Kris locks up Solo’s legs in return. They trade a bunch of back and forth offense, trying to wear the other down. Huge fisherman’s driver from Statlander for a two count. Solo gets the headlock and struggles to hold it until she hits the honey steamer rope run suplex. Solo with a sharpshooter but can’t get it done. Statlander up with the Im your Leader face buster into an axe kick for a two count. Going for I’m Your Leader again but Solo hits a destroyer. The sharpshooter is applied but Statlander gets to the ropes. Solo tries to rip Statlander’s leg off but Kris slips it and hits a super kick. Statlander going for a tonic but rolled up for a two. Statlander gets Solo into a kind of crucifix where she’s just kicking her in the head until Darling finally submits.

Winner: Kris Statlander

Statlander thanks Solo for putting her to the test. She says that at Americanrana, Kimber Lee won’t be able to escape because their match will be contested in a rare Beyond Wrestling STEEL CAGE MATCH! Well now!

Main Event: Josh Briggs vs Retrosexual Anthony Greene (w/ The Platinum Hunnies)

These two opened up EVOLVE 131 with a solid contest last Saturday night on the WWE Network. Tonight, Beyond runs it back and gives these two best friends ample time as the main event! That whole best friends thing goes RIGHT OUT THE DAMN WINDOW as Briggs kicks Angel Sinclair off the apron, chokeslams Greene to the outside and powerbombs Ava Everett into the canvas. Greene back in with a rope walk senton and the fight is on. Greene tries to keep his momentum but, as Briggs says “I know everything you do, a**hole!” They battle to the outside but Briggs slams Greene to the apron. Briggs is clubbing Greene to death. Big flying clothesline and running elbow. Greene dodges a big boot and hits a superkick. Greene with a cutter from the top rope! He gets a two count and rolls out to revive the Hunnies. Briggs recovers to hit that big boot and a chokeslam for a two count. Trading hard shots and uppercuts, Greene is trying to dislocate Briggs’ damn jaw. Briggs with the Go To Hell and a pair of backbreakers to wear down the Retrosexual one. Mistimed dodge and Briggs lays out Ref Dumeng, allowing the Hunnies to swarm and hit a bunch of triple team offense on the big man. Ref Dumeng is up in time to make the two count. Greene hits Briggs’ chokeslam powerbomb! Briggs out on one! Greene with a piledriver that folds Briggs in half! Two count. Greene to the top but Briggs cuts him off and flips him down with the the I Hope You Die. Greene up on one and angry but Briggs immediately hits the chokeslam powerbomb himself for the three count.

Winner: Josh Briggs

Their EVOLVE match was solid but it lacked a story. This match told a story and put it way over Saturday’s match in terms of work and in-ring emotion. This was a great end to the night. Post match, Briggs ruins allllllllll that heat and gets the mic to put Greene over as the one who helped him through his recent hip injury and his best friend and one of the best wrestlers on the planet. He’s speaking the truth here, but I wish he committed to the turn. Before the season ends, Briggs says he wants a tag match with Greene as his partner. Beyond owner Denver Colorado says he’ll get it done.

And that’s it for Episode 16! A lot of solid matches and some great story build towards Americanrana. A lot of stuff felt emotionally on-point tonight and there were some pretty big pops. We have one more episode before the big one and I hear David Starr is going to grace us with his presence next show. Until then.
