Beyond Wrestling “Uncharted Territory: Episode 8”

5/22/19 Worcester, MA

Has it really only been two months since we kicked off this series of awesome shows? Tonight’s card features some solid action, the comeback of Erick Stevens, the Discovery Gauntlet, as well as Nick Gage’s first trip to a Beyond ring since New Year’s Eve. Josh Briggs returns to the commentary booth, alongside Paul Crockett.

Match 1: Solo Darling vs Skylar

It’s been a WHILE since we’ve seen Skylar in Beyond, prompting a huge “Welcome Back” chant from the crowd. Opening minutes are a technical chess match, Solo really testing Skylar’s May skills. They trade stretches back and forth while Solo tries to get those legs. Couple of quick roll up attempts. Skylar tries for a pedigree. Solo tries for her sharpshooter. Unsuccessful, Solo keeps trying to wrap Skylar’s legs up at every opportunity. Some playful words before Skylar just decks Darling in the face. She pays for it with several chest kicks and a springboard ddt. They trade shots on the apron, Solo absorbing the pain gleefully before dropping Skylar on the apron with a bulldog. They battle back to the apron and Skylar hits a second rope codebreaker, tumbling them both to the floor. Two count off that. Solo back up with the sharpstinger but Skylar gets to the ropes. Skylar catches solo with a powerbomb off the turnbuckle. Pumphandle slam from Solo and she locks in the Sharpstinger again...but Skylar gets the rope. A frustrated Solo comes back to try again but Skylar rolls up her, gets the feet on the ropes and that’s the three count!

Winner: Skylar

Took a few minutes for the rust to wear off but when this kicked into gear, this was entertaining stuff. Davienne is down to congratulate Skylar and get her out of there, as Solo figures out how she lost.

It’s Discovery Gauntlet time!!! YOU GOTTA WIN IT TO STAY IN IT! Defending winner Thomas Santell is back out to resounding chants of “Nerd” and “Ovaltine”. His test tonight: Jaxon Stone

Match 2: “The Ovaltine Dream” Thomas Santell vs Jaxon Stone

Stone is all about hogging the spotlight. Doesn’t matter, Worcester is all about that Ovaltine and has some words to say to Mr. Stone. They jockey for position early but Santell’s superior mat game gives him the advantage here. Jaxon using his power to shoulder check Santell down, but a sunsetflip attempt allows Thomas to sink in a deep rear naked choke. They battle to the outside where Jaxon hides behind camerawomen Tanya, prompting a visceral reaction from the crowd. Santell gets her out of there but eats a cheap shot to the back of the head and Stone takes control. Stone with some punishing uppercuts and a big boot. Santell tried to suplex Stoemne but eats a huuuuge fallaway slam for a close two. Stone, decides to break Santell’s glasses out of frustration....and the Nerd hulks up. Bunch of chops and boots and a catch northern lights suplex for another near fall. Stone with a hangman’s stomp. Santell reverses a pop up into a German. Couple of rolls ups. Stone with a neck buster for a near fall. Codebreaker from Santell and he wraps up Stone in an STF for the tap. Yessssss!

Winner: Thomas Santell

Worcester greets Santell’s win with the greatest chant/honor they can muster. Hell of a match here, great drama, great crowd. It’s more than the crowd reaction, Santell has been putting oout solid work week after week. This is quickly becoming THE match to watch on these shows.

Random thought, where the heck is Jaka?

Nick Gage doesn’t even let Santell make his exit before he’s out and on the mic to talk to his MDK crew. He’s upset that Josh Briggs is supposed to be a little hurt tonight and demands he leave the commentary booth. Briggs obliges and they are going blow for blow on the floor, ramming each other in the post.

Match 3: Josh Briggs vs Nick Gage

Gage tosses Josh into the ring but the big man clubs Gage down and hits a big splash for a two count. Briggs with a running boot and he goes for a dive from the top....but slips, crashes and appears to hurt his recovering hip. Gage swarms and starts stomping Briggs out, targeting that leg as much as possible. Briggs taking shots but he can barely stand, never mind get into position or lift Gage. Gage throws some disrespectful slaps that fire Briggs up. He damn near crippled himself hitting Gage with a double underhook corkscrew neckbreaker. Gage back up and takes out Briggs at the leg again, hitting his chokebreaker for the pin.

Winner: Nick Gage

Good story told here around the condition of Briggs’ hip as Josh loses another high profile match in a Beyond ring. The crowd is always super hot for Gage but were respectful towards Jos—-oh god, it’s CHUCK O’NEIL!!!!!

He kicks out Briggs leg and is laying into him, prompting Anthony Greene to run in and save his friend. Greene says the RETRObution tour is on hold because he wants Chuck next week. The crowd is VERY into the idea of seeing Chuck O’Neil get beat up finally. Richard Holliday replaces Briggs in the booth at this point.

Match 4: The Whisper vs Ophidian

So this starts as a battle of “SHHHHHHH” vs “HISSSSSSSSSSS”. Some good lucha sequences as Whisper proves he can hang, going reversal for reversal with the King of Snake Style. Whisper hitting some slams and a backbreaker for a near fall. Ophidian with a corkscrew dropkick. Whisper with a half Nelson backbreaker. Sunset flip drops Whisper on his head, but is reversed into a crucifix for a near fall. Trading chops on the rise. Ophidian sneaks out of a pin and starts hitting some good offense, getting a two count on a Gory Special facebuster and then gets the tap on a bridging neck lock.

Winner: Ophidian

Started a little goofy but the action here got the crowd right back. Fun match from both guys.

Milk Chocolate is out to say they are having a new start in Beyond tonight. They are issuing an open challenge...and The Platinum Hunnies are here to answer it. Oh noooooooes.

Match 5: Milk Chocolate (Brandon Watts & Randy Summers) vs The Platinum Hunnies (Angel Sinclair & Ava Everett)

Ava is asked to lay down for Summers so she distracts him with some sexy poses and nearly gets the rollup. Angel takes out Watts, letting Ava hit Summers with a stink face he is happy to take. Watts dumps Sinclair and they go to work on Ava with kicks, slams and suplexes. Angel with the hot tag and she drops Watts with a cutter. Summers comes in to get some but is ready with a less pleasant stinkface and lets Watts in for a dropkick. Watts is speared and Sinclair slams Ava into him to get the pin.

Winner: The Platinum Hunnies

Goofy bit of fun here. Milk Chocolate is left looking like stale Goobers again as they have to go back to the drawing of how to make their mark in the Beyond tag division.

Match 6: Chris Dickinson vs Erick Stevens

Three days ago, FIP & ROH vet Erick Stevens came out of retirement and had his first wrestling match in 9 years. Tonight he faces Chris Dickinson, who is hot on the warpath to Americanrana and a showdown with Daisuke Sekimoto. Intense start as they push and shove and chop and throw forearms with increasing ferocity. Dickinson is laying in some seriously unholy sounding chops. Stevens absorbs them, fires up tosses the Dirty Daddy and dives after him. Stevens laying in knees and starts wrapping up Dickinson’s arms in submission attempts. Ripcord lariat for a near fall and Stevens is going to work on the arms and neck again. Chris up with an enziguri but gets tossed to the corner. Stevens with the Choo Choo lariats. Dickinson fires right up and we have a war of attrition on our hands. Both guys hitting heavy artillery and barely kicking out. More chops and it’s a mid-ring slug fest until destroys Stevens with a huge lariat and stack him up for the pin. Wow.

Winner: Chris Dickinson

This was a reallllllly good watch. Crazy energy, and HOW THE HELL IS A GUY THAT’S BEEN AWAY FOR NINE YEARS STILL THIS DAMN GOOD? Dickinson rolls along in one of his best matches in a while but this match was NOT about him. Beyond should definitely bring him back for another show. Check this one out on demand.

Cam Zagami is here to interview former WWE superstar, Ken Doane. He says the roster truly represents Worcester since he hasn’t seen an athletic person on the card yet. He’s beaten everyone in the business. He’s beaten Ric Flair more times that alcohol (yikes). He tries to fight fans but keeps getting pulled away until he retreats to the locker room. Well, THAT was a moment.

Main Event: Bear Country (Bear Bronson & Bear Beefcake) vs The Beaver Boys (John Silver & Alex Reynolds)

The troubled but recently reunited Beaver Boys have to get their stuff together to deal with the rising stars in Bear Country. Silver still has that CZW Heavyweight Championship, much to the ire of the crowd. Reynolds starts with Bronson but immediately tags out. Silver is throwing his trademark stiff kicks but Bronson is just eating them for breakfast and overpowering the Meat Man. Silver finally gets him down and Reynolds in for the opportunistic pin attempt. The moment Bronson wakes up, Reynolds is out of there again. Silver chopping down Beefcake with kicks, Reynolds back in for the pin attempt. Beefcake fires up on a slap and Reynolds tries to escape again but is thwarted. Reynolds is taking a bunch of damage from the bears but rolls out before they hit their electric chair splash finish. Beyond’s Tag Team Aces are getting steamrolled until Silver sweeps Bronson’s legs and lays in the kicks. Beaver Boys getting some cheaty double team offense in, keeping Beefcake at the tag rope. Beefcake finally in and lays out both the Boys with a World’s Strongest Slam/Powerbomb combo. Bronson is back on the shoulders for the finish on Reynolds but Silver cutters Bronson. Reynolds with a jumping codebreaker on Beefcake. Bears back and Reynolds tossed outside and Silver is dropped on his damn head. Bronson on top but Silver Ranas him down. Bronson pops up and eats a spike piledriver for a two count. Silver crawling for the tag but Reynolds hops off the apron and leaves. John Silver is left to the mercy of Bears who hit a high angle double powerbomb for the w....KICK OUT! Silver back up and throwing shots. Beefcake dropkicks to the corner, Bronson tosses outside and dives after. Silver gets Beefcake up for a Blue Thunder bomb for a near fall. Bronson with a package piledriver and the Bears hit the electric chair splash for the pin.

Winners: Bear Country

Silver showed great resolve here as Reynolds kept teasing how little he wanted to be in this match. For a moment there, I thought the Meat Man would pull it out but the Bears had too much advantage. Suddenly, Reynolds is back to attack Silver after the bell, prompting the locker room to spill out and break it up.

And that’s Episode 8! Beyond has returned to format here in a very good way, presenting some super solid action and some great storytelling through the show. Chuck vs AG next week should be a good time. They announce VSK vs Dorian Graves as well as the return of Filthy Tom Lawlor. Until next time!
