"Switchblade" Jay White defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to become the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion this morning in Osaka, completing his ascent to the top of New Japan Pro Wrestling at the age of just 26 years old.
White noted after the match that it was just two years ago that he had left the promotion's Young Lions division and used to think he fought for the people but he really only fights for himself and Bullet Club.
White had been receiving a huge push in recent months, including wins over Kazuchika Okada. White becomes the first New Zealand-born professional wrestler to hold the Championship.
