THE FUTURE OF SILAS YOUNG CONFIRMED

By Mike Johnson on 2018-11-30 18:30:00

As Ring of Honor heads into Final Battle in a few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation about the future of talents who’s deals are expiring at the end of the year as well as new talents expected to be heading into the company.

The fate of former ROH TV Champion Silas Young, however, has been determined.

In an exclusive interview with PWInsider.com this afternoon, Young confirmed that he will be remaining with Ring of Honor.

“There’s been a lot of news going around,” Young said.  “A lot of rumors and whatnot about my future here in wrestling.  My contract here with Ring of Honor expires at the end of this year, 2018.  Like I said, there’s a lot of rumors about WWE.  I’ even had people coming up to me months ago saying, ‘Hey I hear you are leaving to WWE.  I hear you are leaving.’  It’s always great from my perspective or any of the wrestling talents’ perspective to have there be interest in you, you know? In saying that, it’s good to have people talking about you when it comes to contract time.  I think anyone can figure out why.    With all that being said, I have decided that after five years with Ring of Honor, five years of them investing in me, I have decided I’m going to sign a three-year contract with them.”

Young, 39 years-old and ROH have come to terms on a new three-year deal that will keep him with the company at least through January 2022.

“The wrestling scene now is super-hot right now and I’m a big believer in loyalty.  Ring of Honor gave me an opportunity five-six years back and every opportunity I’ve been given since, I’ve succeeded with.    I’m the type of guy that likes to stick with the team that brought me to the table, to stick with the team that believed in me from the get-go.   I’m really happy to announce I am staying with Ring of Honor.”

There had been rampant speculation that Young was heading for WWE NXT when his current ROH deal expired at the end of the year.  It was had to have been a consideration.

“To be quite honest with you, “ Young explained, “The idea of WWE for every guy is a dream for everybody who’s ever wrestled or starts wrestling, they have that dream.  I won’t lie, it was my dream.  It was my goal, but at some point,  as you grow and you mature as a person, the wrestler realizes that that top of the mountain, the peak, isn’t always the top of the mountain or it’s not that shiny.  I’m really happy with the decision I’ve made.”

Young noted in his interview with PWInsider.com that a big part of the decision was that he has a ten-year-old son and the Ring of Honor schedule allows him to have a good deal of time off to devote to his son and family.  Young also owns a home in Wisconsin, something he would have had to potentially given up to move to Florida just to explore how things may have worked out once he was in the WWE NXT system.

With his ROH future set in stone as soon as Young prints out and returns his new contract, he will be in NYC and Philadelphia for Final Battle weekend and from there, his tenure with Ring of Honor continues.

PWInsider.com’s complete interview with Young, discussing his role in ROH over the last year, teaming with Bully Ray, working with the Bouncers, more on why ROH was a better fit than a move to WWE at this stage in his life, how his own father was the inspiration for his “Last Real Man” persona, the origins of that, his father’s reaction to his career and much, much more, is now available for Elite subscribers at www.PWInsiderElite.com.
