WWE NETWORK ADDING COMPLETE 'LAST BATTLE OF ATLANTA' EVENT TODAY

By Mike Johnson & Paul Jordan on 2018-10-18 09:14:00

The WWE Network will be adding the 10/23/83 Georgia Championship Wrestling "The Last Battle of Atlanta" event from the Omni in Atlanta, GA to the Hidden Gems section for VOD viewing later today, making it the first time since that event took place live that it will be able to seen by an audience.  The news was first reported by WWENetworkNews.com.

The event was legendary among wrestling fans as it features the finale of the feud between Tommy Rich and Buzz Sawyer.  It had been long believed for decades that the event was not filmed, leaving only photographs as proof of the match.  In actuality, the event was filmed and ended up in the WCW library, but had never been transferred from its original master copy for use.  After WWE purchased WCW's assets in 2001, the original reel went into the WWE library, unmarked until it was discovered.  The Rich vs. Sawyer match had previously been made available but as of today, the entire card will now be seen.

The event featured:

*Bruno Sammartino Jr. versus Pat Rose

*Les Thorton versus Joe Lightfoot

*The Great Kabuki with Gary Hart versus Ron Garvin for the National TV Title

*Mr. Wrestling II versus Bob Roop

*Jake Roberts with Paul Ellering versus Brett Wayne for the National Heavyweight Title

*Jimmy Valiant and Pez Whatley versus the Road Warriors with Paul Ellering for the National Tag Team Titles

*Tommy Rich versus Buzz Sawyer in a Lights Out " Last Battle of Atlanta" Steel Cage Match with Paul Ellering suspended above the ring in a cage.  If Rich won the match, Ole Anderson would face Ellering.
