HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE HALL OF FAME, WORK RATE AND STAR RATINGS DON’T DRIVE THE BUSINESS, WHY DO WRESTLERS SIGN EXTENSION WITH IMPACT AND MORE

Why would Impact talent consider signing extensions now?  Or for that matter – why would anyone sign with LU…  With the WWE TV contracts won’t there be a big rise in their ability to pay talent and develop content??  This should translate to the better worker who are not currently signed with WWE shouldn’t it?

I have wondered the same thing….for a while now.  My conclusion is that in at least most cases, they sign with Impact because it’s their best option.  I would think that anyone that was on the WWE’s radar would want to keep themselves available for a potential deal given Impact isn’t exactly at its apex right now.  If it were me, they wouldn’t be my first choice.  WWE or ROH/New Japan would be.

You mentioned in a recent Q and A that MLW could utilize Wargames because WWE let the trademark lapse and MLW picked it up and my question is does that mean that WWE is at risk of legal action by MLW when they use it in NXT?

When WWE uses it, they had better have the rights to use it.  If they don’t they make themselves a target.

What is one match that didn't work in the era it occurred but in this era of work rate and star rating ages well and deserves a 2nd look?

I can’t really answer because I don’t think we are in the era you think we are in.  Sure, hardcore fans think that, but WWE didn’t get almost 500 billion dollars in TV rights from FOX and NBCU because of star ratings and work rate. They got it for the stories as much as the wrestling.  To me, a lot of different kinds of matches could work if they are presented with the right kind of story.  Until someone that focuses on work rate can come along and generate the kind of money WWE has, I think people get ahead of themselves when they talk about work rate.

Honestly how important do you believe an Hall of Fame induction is, especially in the case of Owen Hart. Let’s be honest there’s no physical Hall of Fame as of yet, obviously he can’t give a speech so all we would get is Bret or Martha telling stories regarding Owen. And pretty much after Wrestlemania his induction will be forgotten about. I don’t it in any way mean to be disrespectful, Owen was my favourite growing up.  His legacy is secure, he’s a Hart so he’ll never be forgotten. His entire wrestling career is available on the network. Nearly everyday dvd or documentary tells an Owen story, so personally I don’t see why a Hall of Fame induction is so important. Thoughts?

I tend to think like you do, that it’s not a big deal past the weekend that it happens.  It’s not a true HOF.  It’s an arbitrary one.  I know it means a lot to many of the people that get inducted, as it’s a great memory and honor to them.  But as you mentioned, Owen is gone so it’s not like he would get to be there and take it all in.  I know others disagree, and that’s fine.  But to me, it’s not that big of a deal.  If I were a wrestler I wouldn’t get upset if I didn’t get asked to be in it since it’s not a Hall Of Fame based completely off of the body of work I did.  To be fair, even if it were based on that I wouldn’t care.  I am the kind of person that doesn’t need that kind of acceptance.

Following up from a Q&A about when WWE brings Hulk Hogan back to TV. Do you think it would be safer to maybe bring him back via WWE Network? A table for 3 for instance and promote it as the Hulkster’s return?

Well, he has stuff on the Network now.  I think the real issue is whether he will be back in the family, representing WWE.  That isn’t something that they can “kind of” do.  Hogan is too big of a name for that.  He will either be associated with them or not.
