NICK GAGE VS.RICH SWANN, JANELA VS. PSICOSIS & MORE: 9/21 GAMECHANGER WRESTLING IN ASBURY PARK, NJ LIVE REPORT

By Bill Bodkin on 2018-09-23 09:11:00

GCW "Live Fast, Die Young" at House of Independents in Asbury Park,  NJ.

GCW debuted at House of Independents in Asbury Park on Friday night September 21, to a fired up, near capacity crowd. "Lowlife" Louie Ramos was the ring announcer for the event.

Match #1: PCO vs. Jimmy Lloyd - GCW Extreme Title Match

A super-hot match that went all over the building immediately. This match went 100 mph, and it proved that despite his age, PCO is definitely not human. He absolutely matched speed and insanity with the 2018 CZW King of the Death Match. PCO needs to be seen to be believed live.

Winner: PCO

Match #2: "Spyder" Nate Webb vs. Tony Deppen

This was a tale of the beloved veteran vs. the cocky rookie. Deppen has a very bright future ahead of him, and Webb is still entertaining as all hell. Like the previous match, this went all over the building (a theme for the night).

Winner: Nate Webb with a version of Will Ospreay's Stormbreaker

Match #3: Teddy Hart vs. Jack Evans

I have not seen Hart since his days cutting epic promos at Jersey All Pro shows in the Rahway Rec. As for Evans, it'd probably been since the infamous ROH Scramble Cage Match. These two absolutely killed it, and still go at the same breakneck speed you'd expect from them. Evans blew the entire crowd away with a Sasuke Special to the outside.

Winner: Teddy Hart with an absolutely bonkers Destroyer off the top.

Post-Match: Teddy Hart cut a promo putting over the GCW crowd.

After both men cleared the ring, "Separate Ways" by Journey hit, and the crowd was stunned when "The Bulldozer" Matt Tremont came out. This was a complete surprise to the audience as Tremont hasn't been in GCW for quit some time. Tremont cut a blistering promo about being back in the promotion. The crowd was absolutely off the charts excited Tremont had returned.

Match #4: G Raver vs. Markus Krane - F*ckery Board Death Match

GCW is known for death matches, and this was one hell of a death match. There were four boards in the corners -- one covered has mousetraps on them, one had razor blades on them, one had gusset plates on them, one was a legit bed of nails, and there was a door wrapped in barbed wire. Oh, and there was a board with saws on them -- blades up. They was absolutely insane. Raver and Crane brutalized each other includes some sick spots where massive pins which looked like knitting needles were jammed in each other's heads. And yes, one of them spots did get blood on the audience (myself included). If you love death matches - this was all for you.

Winner: Markus Krane

Match #5: Marko Stunt vs. Kyle the Beast vs. Matt Travis (subbing for Eli Everfly) vs. Gringo Loco

Eli Everfly was not on the show, not sure why. People were really into Mark Stunt, and he was a lot of fun to watch live. He hit a massive rana off the balcony of the venue which blew the roof of the place. Gringo Loco was nuts as always, and had his requisite "oh man is he injured?" spot. KTB is destined for big things. As for Travis, he took his heat for wearing a bulletproof vest, in stride, and played it up nicely. The match seemed to end short because it looked like Stunt got legit hurt after a KTB moonsault.

Winner: Marko Stunt with a roll-up.

Post-Match: KTB put over Stunt, who definitely looked injured.

Match #6: Nick Gage vs. Rich Swann - GCW World Title

Holy smokes, do people LOVE Nick Gage. It's almost a cult-like response to how much they love him. Gage and Swann, on paper seemed a bit of an odd mix, but man these two had a banger of a match. Yes, they brawled all over the venue, but the unrelenting strong style of Gage mixed with Swann's frenetic pace made for a hell of a good time. In the end Gage hit a series of apron piledrivers, and concluding with a driver through a table.

Winner: Nick Gage

Post-match: Gage puts over Swann, and the entire GCW crowd.

Match #7: Joey Janela vs. Psicosis

Sadly, this match was marred by a number of factors. These two did not gel in the ring. Psicosis definitely worked a ground game, and a much slower style due to his history of injuries (his elbow looked gnarly in person). Unfortunately, this match will be remembered for its ending where Janela got injured after doing a massive dive to the outside. He definitely came back into the ring noticeably limping.  Psicosis went to the top rope, and Penelope Ford came off the top with a massive huricanrana, which Janela followed up with a superkick.

Winner: Joey Janela

Post-Match: As I reported earlier, Janela broke down on the mic apologizing to the crowd for the match. He said he definitely felt injured, and this could be a big one. He got a standing ovation from the crowd. Hopefully this isn't serious.

Match #8: Shlak vs. Eric Ryan (subbing for Alex Colon) - No Rope Barbed Wire Match

This was exactly what you'd expect to be lots of blood...but then something happened. About 75% through the match Shlak called for some chairs, and the crowd responded....and it was chaos. Poor Eric Ryan got destroyed with chairs, and it looked like he got legit nailed and pissed after some chairs hit him in the face and knees. Shlak took a hell of a beating, as there was literal flesh hanging off his face.

Winner: Shlak with a very awkward powerbomb through a door/table wrapped in barbed wire that definitely hurt both men.

Post-Match: Ryan put over GCW. Then Nick Gage came out and promoted the company, and the after party -- which featured him DJ-ing (legit), and two more death matches.

Final Thoughts: This was a lot of fun. It was 100mph chaos, and a packed house with a red hot crowd made it that much better.
