Who is this Court Bauer person? Is he a wealthy person or a millionaire? How and where does he get the money to produce MLW shows? Just curious because I am surprised at how many top talents he is able to get to his shows. How can he afford it? Is he the new Tod Gordon?
I can't speak for the source of MLW's finances, but Court has been around the business for some time, originally learning and breaking in under the Anoa'i family when they were based in Pennsylvania. He launched MLW in the early 2000s and made several attempts at running the company. When he shut it down, he moved on to film production and worked for a time in WWE creative. After leaving WWE, he worked in the MMA world and then relaunched the MLW brand as a podcast hub before eventually moving forward with MLW as a promotion again. The current rendition of the brand has been very successful thus far, mostly thanks to sponsorships and the TV series on BeIN Sports.
Question about Chris Jericho, I was looking at the dates for the Fozzy tour and it seems like the band is pretty packed for the rest of 2017. That makes me wonder why would NJPW take a huge risk on icing the IWGP Intercontinental Championship by putting it on Jericho? Do you guys think he will be able to defend the title at least once? Probably at Wrestle Kingdom next year? This is really mind-boggling.
I think they put it on him because they wanted the connection between the company and a major American name. They usually have things planned out well in advance so I am sure they have a general idea of if and when he's returning, plus most of his New Japan runs are sparked with a surprise appearance, so the idea of not knowing when he will defend the title plays into that.
Where's Ryback been?
Ryback still does independent appearances from time to time but turned down a WWE deal and is primarily focusing on several businesses he's running in Nevada, where he lives.
What's the WWE reaction to the crowd going nuts for Becky Lynch when they were turning her heel?
No real reaction. They are just trying to stick to their plan.
Any word on Summerslam next year? There was nothing announced during the show and they usually make that announcement.
The rumor among those within the company was that the event was Toronto-bound, but we were unable to confirm that. Raw is in Toronto next week, so it makes sense to announce it then. Had they announced that during Summerslam, they would have risked the NYC audience being angry and turning on the show live.
