DEMON INVASION, TRIBUTE TO NEIDHART, YES, THAT WAS A TNA CHANT, BROOKLYN LOVES BECKY, WWE HALL OF FAMER & MORE BACKSTAGE: ONGOING LIVE NOTES FROM SUMMERSLAM

By Mike Johnson on 2018-08-19 19:12:00

Live notes from Summerslam:

Interesting to note every seat on the floor is a take-home chair.  I don't think I have ever seen that before at a WWE PPV.

The show is 100 percent sold out.  Fans trying to nab a ticket at the last second were turned away.

There was a nice pop for Zelina Vega getting the pin as she is from nearby Queens, NY originally.

Drew Gulak vs. Cedric Alexander was very good.  Live, you could feel the crowd getting into the last several minutes.

The live crowd was really into the B-Team.

They put up a countdown screen on the video screens for the last minute but they pulled it when the crowd starting counting down the way they did during the Iron Man match at Extreme Rules.

During the opening video for the PPV, the Barclays crowd was booing all clips featuring Roman Reigns AND all clips featuring Brock Lesnar.  Are we looking at  Goldberg vs. Brock level match rejection at Wrestlemania 20 redux?  We will see.

Dean Ambrose coming out got a way bigger reaction than anything on the pre-show.

Seth Rollins' ring gear was very much inspired by Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War.

The live crowd absolutely loved the Intercontinental Championship bout and they should have, as it was great.  It will be interesting to see what the title switch means for Dolph Ziggler's future, if anything.

Live, the crowd hated the DQ finish to the Smackdown Tag titles and booed the Bludgeon Brothers.  They got into the match as it went on and really reacted to the Big E spear to the floor and the Xavier Woods flying elbow.

Dr. Chris Amann has been seen in the building so if anyone was wondering if he's still with the company after that CM Punk lawsuit, he is.

I may have been the only person in Brooklyn happy to see Jon Stewart.

I am told WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair and Shane McMahon are here.

Kevin Owens was a bump machine in that Braun Strowman bout.  Brooklyn seemed surprised by how quick that one ended.  That certainly teased a cash-in!

Of the three competitors for the Smackdown Women's Championship, Becky Lynch got the biggest reaction live by far.

Teddy Hart is in the house.

The crowd was really into the Smackdown Women's title bout.  I thought it was probably the best match Carmella has ever had and the near falls and the interactions with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair were great.  Brooklyn booed the post-match hug until Lynch turned.  Since they were already behind her, they lost their minds for that.

Charlotte was booed as she recovered.

Enes Kanter of the New York Knicks is in attendance.

Yes, that was a loud but brief TNA chant during Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles.  The crowd liked the chaos of the post-match a lot.  I will have a lot to say about the match later during my Elite audio.

I just confirmed Carmella and Charlotte's pink and black outfits were created on honor of Jim Neidhart.  Not sure if that was mentioned on the PPV broadcast.

Maryse is sitting in the front row with a baby carriage next to her.

Big reaction for both Daniel Bryan and The Miz coming out.

So the Bellas are at ringside for Ronda Rousey but not Daniel Bryan?

Brooklyn crowd was really into Bryan vs The Miz especially the big spots and all the chanting but it seems they are starting to tire.

Maryse and her baby carriage were rushed out of the Arena as soon as Miz pinned Bryan.

Holy hell, the reactioj for the return of the Demon aas absolutely ear-splittingly loud.  Brooklyn was totally reenergized after that one, which was a perfect segment to re-introduce The Demon as a huge deal.

After their ring entrances, the crowd live was very quiet for Jeff Hardy vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.  They roared for Randy Orton's entrance.  They weren't happy when he walked off.

Ronda Rousey got a bigger reaction just walking out than most of the matches did.  The fans are invested and they believe in her.

What Ronda Rousey originally called the tiger to come to the ring the replay of the Finish was playing so the referee stopped her and told her to wait for the replay this done. The crowd booed the Bellas getting in the ring. Good for Ronda.  It was the right move.

As you would expect, Roman was booed out of Barclays but there were some cheers for him.  As for Brock, the live crowd booed the hell out of him too! Usually there is a big pop for Brock on these big shows when the music hits but not tonight!

The ring announcements didn't fair much better but the crowd did do the entire Paul Heyman. The place went nuts however for Braun coming out.  He probably saved the match in terms of reaction.  I could see a few fans starting to walk out and then turn back and run to their seats.

Beastie Boy got a huge reaction as NYC was the home of the Beastie Boys.

If you heard an "as****" chant, a fan was ejected during the match.  Not sure why.
