LAST MAN STANDING LEAVES WITH THE TITLE, SHAYNA VS. SANE, COLE DEFENDS, EC3 VS. THE DREAM, AMAZING TAG TITLE MATCH OPENS THE SHOW AND THE WINNERS DON'T GET TO ENJOY IT: ONGOING NXT TAKEOVER BLOG

By Dave Scherer on 2018-08-18 18:55:00

The NXT pre-game show has been really good.  It helps that they do such a great job in building up feuds that when they have a pre-game show, I am invested in everything that they are talking about.

The “who dun it” stuff is fabulous.  I love the video that they did.  They threw a ton of suspects out there.  Do I, for example, think Steve Cutler or Heavy Machinery did it?  No, but it’s cool that they are involved in a big angle.

William Regal telling us that the Undisputed Era are no longer suspects was a nice step one in the story.  Regal saying he may have to fire someone he scouted was cool too.  Obviously, he won’t do that since Black will want revenge, but it’s still really cool.

On a different note, I really enjoy Pat McAfee.  He brings a lot of fun to the broadcast.

I am ready.  Let’s do this thing!

Five matches, all of which I am really psyched for.  What a concept!

The crowd is every bit as hyped as I am.  They are sold out.  We are starting with tag team Title action.  Roddy Strong and Kyle O’Reilly are out first.  Big pop, and it’s well deserved.  When they turned Roddy, I wondered if he could do it.  He can.  O’Reilly?  He’s great.  Mustache Mountain is out next.  Another great pop.  They have towels around their neck.  It would be cool if they threw them in the trash, to say NO GIVING UP TONIGHT!

They didn’t, but it would cool if that happened later.

The crowd is LIVE!  Let’s go!

The challengers are on fire early.  Tyler Bate is ridiculously talented....then when you take in how young he is?  The dude is ridiculous, in the best possible way.  The early story is that Trent Seven isn't 100 percent due to the knee but Bate is doing all he can to take the fight to the champs.  He did well, until the Era took over.   The fans are dueling chants, which means whoever cheers for the first team the rest of the crowd doesn't want the other left out.  I love NXT.

How does Tyler Bate bend like that?  Better him than me!

Bate managed to toss Roddy to the floor.  As he went to the corner, Kyle came in and got dumped to the floor.  Seven made the tag and came in like a house on fire.  He even hit a tope for the slide rule fans!  He destroyed the champs after takling a true hot tag.  He even got a near fall on Roddy.  But then Trent missed the Lariat and Era took over again.  Kyle got a near fall.  Roddy locked on the Stronghold.  Bate tried to break it but Kyle locked on the Triangle.  Tyler powered out and bowling balled Kyle into Roddy to break the submission.  The fans are going nuts, and with good reason.

Bate suplexed....damn I can't even keep up.  Bate is awesome and did a ton to get to a near fall on Roddy.  Damn.

Kyle came out of nowhere and slammed Bate's leg into the post.  Roddy took out Seven and Kyle locked on a heel hook.  This is ridiculously good.  Trent is dying for the tag.

Bate got near the corner and Seven came in, allowing Roddy to pull Bate back.  Seven went to throw in the towel and instead threw it to the crowd.  Yes!  My idea!

Bate fought back to the corner and made the tag. He went to work on Kyle, getting a two.  Seven tagged in Bate.  Tyler went up and Roddy tried to stop him by Bate hit a Burning Hammer.  Two count only!  DAMN!

Era came back and took out Bate though, as Roddy hit a knee strike on him as he was trying to help Trent put away Kyle.  That allowed them to take out Seven and retain the Titles.

OK, if you are only reading and want to watch this, stop reading and go watch.  That was an amazing match.  In typical NXT booking, the winner looked great and the loser did too.

During the commentary, Nigel said that War Raiders were waiting, not for long.  As the champs preened after their win, Rowe and Hansen came out and destroyed them.  Great stuff and we know who is next in line.

Just after I said, "I think the go EC3 vs. Velveteen Dream next" they confirmed it.

Dream's entrance, as usual, was awesome, and the fans loved it. They loved EC3 too.

EC3 came out strong but the tide turned on the floor when Dream hit a DDT on the steel. Then Dream took over. I was eating dinner during the match. Sorry for limited blogging. Dream was the star of the match. EC3 is really good but I think he is adjusting to NXT and the insanity that goes into these shows. He could very well end up like Elias, where he ends up being much better on the main roster due to him being so good at the character aspect of the business. Obviously he can wrestle, but he is just so good at being EC3 the character. I think that the right guy won here.  I honestly don't know how much is in NXT for EC3 anyway.

Eps filled in and sent this.  Thanks Eps!

Back of Dream’s tights say “ Call me up Vince”.

All EC3 until Velveteen reveres into a twisting DDT on the floor. Nigel and Mauro do a masterful job of explaining how EC3 is able to continue after such a vicious DDT on the ramp

Due to his pronounced neck muscularity

Dream decided to humiliate EC3 by throwing a bottle of water in his face which is a mistake since it revives EC3 and sparks a comeback

EC3 scores with a superplex but grabs the back of his head. Nigel says that’s from the impact of the DDT earlier in the match

Nigel so good at connecting dots

Dream hits Death Valley Driver and the purple rain maker on the apron. Rolls EC3 back in the ring and picks up the win. A really strong wrestling match with a spectacular finish

EC3 must have gotten clipped because it looks like he’s got a shiner developing

Matt Riddle has arrived
