REY MYSTERIO, SHANE STRICKLAND & MORE: 6/17 ARO LUCHA IN NASHVILLE, TN NOTES & RESULTS

By Mike Johnson on 2018-06-18 09:24:00

AroLucha held their latest event last night at the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, TN before an estimated crowd of 900-1,000 fans.  Given that the show was the same day as Money in the Bank and that Mexico was playing in the World Cup, I'd say that was a solid house, although it was obviously down from the last time they were in the venue.

We are told that the show was held specifically to showcase the company's product in front of some potential business partners.  Modelo beer was again a big sponsor and had their signage all over the place.

Results of the event saw:

*Trey Miguel defeated Myron Reed and Nate Wings in a three-way.  Lots of athletic, hard wrestling, which got over with the live crowd.

*Austin Theory pinned Septimo Dragon.

*Arez defeated Gringo Loco and Low Rider in a Three-Way.

*Mascarita Dorada & Thunder Rosa (who just worked ROH over the weekend as well) defeated Demus & Kylie Rae in a mixed match featuring minis and female competitors.  We were told this was a lot of fun with some comedy mixed into the athletics.  The crowd got really into this as everyone was interacting with the crowd and everything got over live.    Rosa is extremely underrated.

*Jack Edwards (Jack Evans, using a different name for trademark purposes) defeated Puma King, Darby Allen and ACH in what was said to have been a show-stealing bout with tons of big moves.  The crowd was really into this one and it brought the energy of th crowd up.

*The main event saw a trios match with Rey Mysterio & Fenix & Sammy Guevara defeating "Team Swerve" of MLW Champion Shane Strickland & Black Taurus & Willie Mack.  This was said to have been lots of fun as well with the younger talents all setting the stage for the big Mysterio trademark moves.

Mysterio cut a post-match promo in both Spanish and English putting over all the fathers who were there tonight and challenged Tema Swerve to a rematch right there.  The heels teased doing it, then backed down with Mack getting a pop for saying he was tired and just wanted to go eat some burgers.  Strickland said they would do it down the line.  Fenix, who has been working EVERYWHERE and may be the busiest independent talent of 2018, put over Mexico for winning the World Cup and obviously, got a big pop for that.

Aro Lucha Notes: The show ran about two hours....Before the event, Black Taurus, Jack Edwards, Puma King, Mascarita Dorada, Thunder Rosa, Kylie Rae, Demus, Low Rider, ring announcer Dee Dee, Arez, Puma King had a meet and greet to promote the show at Mariachi Plaza in Nashville, targeting the Latin audience as there was a big crowd there watching World Cup soccer matches...a number of local Latin radio stations had live remotes from the event....VIP ticketholders received a pre-show meet and greet with Rey Mysterio, Konnan, Shane Strickland, Willie Mack, Fenix, Sammy Guevara....The crowd was described to us as 60% Latin fans and 40% families who came to see wrestling....The Harris Twins, Konnan and Rafael Morffi worked backstage as producers.  No Vince Russo there.
