The Kickoff show match saw The Bludgeon Brothers take on Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The story was that the champs took out Gallows and worked on Anderson. Gallows finally came back at end but the champs retained. It was largely a squash given how it was booked.
Plus, they did the customary commercial in the middle. So it is what it is, pre-show stuff.
We are opening with Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass. Bryan is over like rover. Cass is out next. He is not. The story was that Bryan fired on him early but then Cass threw him into the barricade and took control. But since he is Bryan he fought back. Cass kept on the offensive, telling the story that a good big man is better than a good small man.
But Bryan is never out. He went after the left knee, brutalizing it. And then flying knees. Cass tried to catch him but Bryan rolled through and locked on the YES. Cass got the ropes. Bryan did a few dropkicks threw the ring, putting Cass into the barricade. Then he came off the top with an awesome splash. He is sooooooo good. He threw Cass back in the ring. He went to the top but Cass crotched him and took control. Crowd chanted Big Cass sucks. And they chanted worse after he got a near fall.
Cass did a Torture Rack (yeah, like Luger) and dumped him on the mat for a two. He admired what he did and charged in but Bryan moved the rope and he got caught up. Bryan went after the leg again as the crowd chanted his name. Yes kicks followed. Until Cass caught him by the throat. But Bryan got out and kicked him again and again. He loaded up for the big kick but took too long and ran into Cass who dumped him and got a near fall after a boot to the head. The crowd is chanting for Bryan.
Cass went back to the Torture Rack but Bryan got out and hit the running knee. He then locked on the Punctuation Mark and Bryan got the win! Yes! Bryan is still amazing in the ring and he can now hopefully move on from Cass. This was a really good match. Cass looked a lot more confident than he has and Bryan was awesome. I am glad he is back doing what he loves. He is awesome.
Sami Zayn vs. Bobby Lashley was up next. Sami played the coward at first. Then he cheap shotted Bobby and kept doing it. Then Bobby came and destroyed him big time, getting the win.
Elias is playing guitar, to a big pop. They want to walk with him, and then he cut a promo on Seth. They popped. He called the scumbags and they popped and chanted "We are scumbags". He tried to turn them and said they aren't worth it. Out comes Seth Rollins. He is over too.
Seth was in control early but Elias nailed him with a lariat and Seth started selling his neck. Elias is in control as the crowd chanted for Rollins. He came back with a Slingblade and then a tope. He was doing well until he "landed badly" on his left knee. Elias back in control.
They traded control back and forth. There was an amazing sequence where Elias was just amazing. The fans chanted that it was awesome. Both guys were. Elias is having his best WWE match yet and Seth is doing a great job of selling the leg.
The finish came when Rollins fought up an Elias rollup by grabbing the tights and getting the pin. This feud isn't over and that is fine by me! It was great stuff. I asked Eps for a quick recap since I was eating. He sent this:
Rollins fighting to overcome a leg injury takes one risk too many and Elias turns up the pace and gets a near fall with a Savage elbow. Crowd chants this is awesome after the kick out. Rollins knee gives out on the buckle bomb, Elias goes for Drift Away, Rollins with an inside cradle for a near fall, Elias rolls up Rollins, Rollins pulls an Eddie Guerrero pulls the tights reversed the roll up scored the fall. Really good stuff.
Eps was right, it was indeed really good stuff.
