JEFF JARRETT CAPTURES AAA TITLE, AAA PLANNING SEPTEMBER RETURN TO NYC IN MAJOR ARENA

By Mike Johnson on 2018-06-05 10:17:00

Jeff Jarrett captured the AAA Mega Championship in the main event of the promotions Verano Escalando event over the weekend, which was the first show featuring the return of Konnan as the booker of the promotion.     Jarrett won a three-way bout over Dr. Wagner Jr. and Rey Mysterio after Konnan, under a fake La Parka mask, pretended to be the referee and counted three.  Jarrett is slated to appear this weekend at the Legends of the Ring convention in Monroe, NJ and the House of Glory event in Queens, NY.

Even more interesting is that sources at Madison Square Garden have confirmed to PWInsider.com that AAA is looking to run MSG on either 9/16 or 9/23.  We are told that while conversations are ongoing, nothing is locked in stone.

PWInsider.com cannot confirm whether AAA is seeking to run the Garden itself of the adjacent Theater, which holds 4,500 seats.   If they run MSG itself, AAA would become the first promotion in history dating back decades to the McMahon family era to do so.   As noted yesterday, Ring of Honor teased that they could run the Garden in the future as well with Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks hinting at "All In 2" taking place in the legendary venue.

AAA ran the Theater in Madison Square Garden (at the time, known as the Paramount Theater) in July 1994, headlined by Jake Roberts & Art Barr & Eddie Guerrero vs. Konnan & Perro Aguayo & Cien Caras.  That event sold out and ended with Konnan promising the company would return to NYC.  It may be that several decades later, that promise is kept.

AAA is slated to have a press conference this week about Triplemania, so it will be interesting to see if anything is officially announced.
