Beyond Wrestling “Solid Gold”

5/26/18 - East Greenwich, RI

Pre-Show “New England Mania”

Match 1: Anthony Stone & Jillian Lee vs Robo the Punjabi Lion & Samara

Robo is a beast and Stone gets tossed around. Lee meets the same fate going head to head with Samara. A distraction from Stone turns the tide, Samara takes a bunch of damage from both opponents. Robo with the hot tag. Stone makes a comeback but whiffs a diving double knee and is planted with a bomb for three while the ladies fight on the outside.

Winner: Robo & Samara

Match 2: Christian Casanova vs Anthony Greene (w/ the Platinum Honeys, Angel & Ava Everett)

They trade holds quickly to start, very even fast pace. Casanova with a springboard hangman’s legdrop. Greene reversed a huracanrana into a face buster for a near fall. Really good back and forth action here. Greene dodges a backstabbed but eats a codebreaker instead. Greene picks up the win after a destroyer into a spike piledriver. This was a lot of fun and a hell of a showcase for both these guys. Catch this when Beyond posts it to YouTube.

Winner: Anthony Greene

Match 3: Da Hoodz (Dave Cash & Kris Pyro) vs Brett Domino & DL Hurst

Some good tandem offense from the tag vets, both teams trading dives until Hurst & Domino start working over Pyro. Domino does a good job keeping Cash off the apron. Cash finally gets in, the Hoodz wipe out Domino with a double-team tombstone. Da Hoodz isolate Hurst and hit a wheelbarrow blockbuster for the win.

Winners: Da Hoodz

Main Event - WWR Showcase Match: Davienne vs Skylar

Power vs technique. The ladies are intense throughout this contest, Davienne beating Skylar from pillar to post for the offense of trying to make a comeback. Skylar reverses a suplex into a DDT and starts to get some tangible offense in. They fight to the outside, Skylar beating on Davienne around the ring. Back in the ring, they trade near falls. Both ladies are exhausted but refusing to quit. Davienne looks like she’s going for a black hole slam but Skylar rolls her up for the pin. Davienne leaves enraged. A little sloppy at times but this was a good fight.

Winner: Skylar

Main Show “Solid Gold”

Match 1: Lufisto vs AR Fox (w/ the Skulk)

An unsportsmanlike kick from Fox in the opening handshake and Lufisto makes him pay for that, stomping and tossing Fox about while his posse looks on in horror. The Skulk gets a cheap shot in and Fox goes to work on his opponent. Lufisto comes back and gets a near fall off several suplexes. Lufisto working an ankle submission a few times. Fox comes back with a huge springboard stunner and a swanton for a pair of close two’s. Lufisto with a cannonball into the tree of woe. The Skulk try to hold Lufisto on the outside but Fox wipes them out with a dive. Lufisto locks a reverse figure-four on Fox to get the tap. This was good!

Winner: Lufisto

Match 2: Chuck Taylor vs Chuck Taylor(tm)

This is finally paying off a Chikara storyline from a couple years ago where Stokely Hathaway had bought the rights to Taylor’s name and moveset, forcing Chuck to work shows under a variety of different and increasingly terrible names.

Taylor toys with Taylor(tm) for the first few minutes. Taylor(tm) fires up and beat up Chuck outside, ejecting him to the locker room. Taylor re-emerges dressed in Stokely’s ring gear and proceeds to beat up Taylor(tm). A ref bump brings Swamp Monster to the ring, who doesn’t know who the real Taylor is. Swamp Monster crashes into Taylor with a chair as Taylor(tm) calls out Sweater Monster. Chuck kicks out after a chair shot, rips Sweater Monsters head off and puts Taylor(tm) away with Sole Food into a Piledriver. Post-Match, Taylor rips off his Stokely costume and elbow drops it a few times. This was dumb fun but still fun.

Winner: Chuck Taylor (the real one)

Match 3: Ryan Galeone vs Bill Carr

Last month, Amityville Project lost their epic showdown with Team Pazuzu. They turned on leader Dan Barry, bringing out former Team Tremendous partner Bill Carr to make the save. Now we have this match!

Carr says they’re gonna fight like men, and fight they do. Strikes and kicks and stomps and chops in the ring spill outside. Carr mists beer into Galeone’s eyes. Back in the ring, Galeone on the offensive for a while but Carr comes back with a huge huracanrana. Galeone with a swanton to an upright Carr. It’s a high flying hoss fight now. Carr catches Galeone with a jackhammer for a near fall. Galeone is looking for a piledriver but Carr reverses with a destroyer for the pin. This was a fun fight but I’m mostly shocked that a destroyer finished a match in 2018.

Winner: Bill Carr

Match 4: Beaver Boys (John Silver & Alex Reynolds) vs The Dream Team (Jonathan Gresham & Thomas Sharp w/ Stokely Hathaway)

We continue Gresham’s forced purgatory in Hathaway’s Dream Team with a tag team pairing he is clearly unhappy to be a part of.

This starts with an extended segment of Gresham working over Reynolds with holds. Sharp and Silver tag in and it’s a pose-off and feats of strength, Gresham cheering Silver on as his teammate gets slammed. The Boys go to work on Sharp briefly but Gresham tags in hot. Silver cuts it off, powerbombing Gresham onto Reynolds’ knees. Gresham gets beat on for a while by his opponents. Sharp tags in and levels Silver with a huge black hole slam. A miscommunication and Sharp misses tossing Gresham on Silver. Sharp is wiped out with a press cutter and Gresham eats a double swinging buster for the pin.

Post-match, Stokely is mad and runs down Gresham on the mic. He’s disappointed but he promises no matter how much he loses, he’ll never let him leave the Dream Team. Gresham blames Sharp for the loss and takes off.

Winners: Beaver Boys

Match 5: Jerome Daniels vs Keith Lee

Billed as Lee’s last independent match in Rhode Island, he has chosen to fight his friend and longtime tag partner Jerome Daniels, who is making his Beyond Wrestling debut tonight. Lee is eating up the crowd reaction as Daniels tries to figure out how to deal with the big man. Lee showboats but Daniels cuts him off, asking if he wants to go or not. Lee says this is his ring so...”Show me.”

Some fast chain sequences to start, a mutual show of respect and Daniels tries to wear Lee down with several sleepers and a lot of strikes. “I can do this all day!” says Jerome. Daniels tries to tell Lee to bask but gets blasted with a pounce. “Can you do THAT all day?” responds Lee. Keith starts chopping his opponent down, who is getting leveled by these double chops and corner throws. He’s resilient though, dodging and getting his strikes in where he can. A Superman punch and disaster kick later and Lee is on the defensive. Both men are exhausted, strikes and chops back and forth. Lee hit the double chops but Daniels comes back. Lee spins him end over end with a lariat but Daniels comes back. Lee sets up for a top rope Spirit Bomb but Daniels huracanrana him off the top. A curb stomp from “All Day” nearly ends it for Lee. Lee hits the Spirit Bomb but Daniels locks in a triangle on the pin attempt. It’s super close but Lee bombs his way out of it. Lee with a jackhammer but Daniels kicks out! Lee goes for the moonsault but Daniels cuts him off with a kick. Lee reverses his and hits a 2nd rope jackhammer for the pin.

This was stellar. Great emotion and the crowd was into it all. Post-match, Keith thanks him for pushing him so hard. Another great match from Lee and a great debut for Daniels, who will be tested by AR Fox tomorrow

Winner: Keith Lee

(Intermission)

Match 6: Penelope Ford vs David Starr

Starr continues his quest to utterly destroy Joey Janela. He brings out referee Tony P to replace current official Kevin Quinn, who Starr hates due to a series of “blown calls”. Starr spends much of the match overpowering, mocking and disrespecting Ford. She makes a few comebacks, hitting kicks and her trademark tumbling elbow but Starr ejects her, telling Beyond owner Drew Cordeiro “YOU BOOKED THIS.” Ford is resilient, hitting a crossbody and going strike for strike with Starr. Ford goes for her tumbling elbow again but Starr catches her with a german suplex and finishes her with a lariat. Post-match, Starr goes to beat on Ford some more but Ring Kampf arrives to run him off. This was pretty uncomfortable throughout.

Winner: David Starr

Match 7: Massage NV (VSK & Dorian Graves) vs Doom Patrol (Chris Dickinson & Jaka)

Dickinson shows up in a towel, ready for a massage. His opponents comply, being Massage professionals. Jaka’s had enough and actually attacks NV, ruining his partner’s massage. Jaka ends up getting a double foot massage. NV works Jaka over for a while (with actual good tandem wrestling). Dickinson with the hot tag and he destroys everyone. Doom Patrol goes for their electric chair chokeslam but Jaka is chopped off the top. Dickinson kicks out after a wheelbarrow double stomp. NV gets the baby oil and tries to hit the body slide on Jaka, who dodges and sends VSK headfirst into the turnbuckles. One electric chair chokeslam later and Graves eats the pin. Once the tomfoolery of the first few minutes wrapped, this went into a very solid tag match.

Winners: Doom Patrol

Match 8: Josh Briggs vs Kimber Lee

They shake hands and Kim is instantly in pain...and this is the biggest piece of offense Briggs gets for much of the match. Kim hits Briggs with kicks and strikes, while reversing or dodging all of Josh’s heavy offense. Briggs reverses a top rope huracanrana attempt into a super sitout powerbomb for a near fall. Briggs goes for a chokeslam off the top but Lee kicks him down. She hits a swanton from the top to get the pin. This could have been better paced.

Winner: Kimber Lee

Main Event: Ring Kampf (Timothy Thatcher & WALTER) vs LAX (Santana & Ortiz)

Santana and Thatcher come out hot, pushing the pace and aggression early. Santana is clearly wary to let WALTER tag in. LAX working as much fast double team action as they can muster. WALTER tags in and LAX’s worst nightmares come true in a flurry of chops and crabs and chops and bombs and more chops. At one point, WALTER rips the shirt off Santana in a single motion and chops him with it. Kampf tagging in and out, working over Ortiz and keeping an increasingly frustrated Santana stuck on the apron. Santana tags in and manages to outstrike both Thatcher and WALTER. LAX double dive to the outside and a near fall on Thatcher. A very pissed off WALTER hits the ring and loses a chop battle to an on-fire Santana. LAX is going for the kill but Thatcher rolls up Ortiz as WALTER intercepts Santana. Lot of energy in this fight from both the crowd and the participants. Good main event!

Winner: Ring Kampf

Overall, a good showing from Beyond! The heat in the building did a lot to suck the life out of the crowd but the action (and copious bottles of water) kept the energy level in the room up. Looking forward to tomorrow’s “All Day” in Worcester!
