WrestleCon Super Show

Joey Janela w/Penelope Ford v Penta el 0M

Penta struck first with kicks and chops, but Janella quickly turned it around with a Death Valley driver to the apron. The two brawled on the outside for a beat before returning to the ring.

Janela escaped a cradle piledriver attempt before trying one of his own. Ultimately turning the tide with a superkick to the jaw of Penta.

A backstabber put Penta back in control of things, but Ford intervened before he could follow through. A superplex later and Janella was back on top. He followed through with a suicide dive. Penelope tried to intervene once more and took a superkick for her trouble. Penta punished her further by breaking the arm!

A falcon arrow from Penta netted him the pinfall victory.

Winner: Penta el 0M!

Andy Kaufman Intergender Challenge: Joey Ryan vs. Jerry The King Lawler

Before the match Ryan took a moment to “educate” the fans in attendance on proper hygeine and remind the women in the building of “their place” in society.

Ryan was interrupted by non other than Jerry the King Lawler. Lawler noted that it was 35 years to the day that he sent the real Andy Kaufman to the hospital. “I know the real Andy Kaufman and you’re not Andy Kaufman…. Let me let you experience what the real Andy Kaufman experienced.”

Ryan instructed Lawler, “... touch my d###!” then no sold a kick to the crotch. Lawler followed through by shooting a fireball at Ryan which sent the King of Dong Style to the outside. The official disqualified Lawler for the attack.

Winner: Joey Ryan

Emma, Nicole Savoy, Tessa Blanchard, Shazza  McKenzie and Penelope Ford vs. Trevor Lee, Caleb Konley, MJF, Zane Riley and Jake Manning.

Emma started out by duping the guys with some misdirection, followed by Penelope Ford, Shaza, Tessa Blanchard and Nicole Savoy all putting in work against the boys.

Some shenanigans led to all of the competitors stretching one another out in what I can only describe as a wrestling human centipede.

The guys and gals took turns knocking one another to the mat until Emma cleared the ring and Savoy followed up with a suicide dive, which was then followed with more dives to the outside by her teammates punctuated with a drop from the top rope by Ford.

Back inside the guys and gals re-commenced going 50/50 on one another. Savoy escaped a doomsday device attempt which resulted in a tower of wrestlers toppling to the mat leaving only Blanchard standing for a codebreaker to Conley.

Rapid-fire action back and forth resulted in the ladies all simultaneously locking the men simultaneously for a tapout.

Winners: Emma and Co.

Mr. Athletic Jeff Cobb v Stone Pitbull Tomohoro Ishii

The two burly competitors started out by going 50/50 on a long series of stiff forearms that Cobb ended with a powerslam. The following exchange saw Ishii get a powerslam of his own to take over control of the match. A struggle of might between the two netted Ishii a brainbuster on Cobb.

Cobb nearly effortlessly lifted Ishii for a vertical suplex then set off three German suplexes in a row for a near fall. He followed with a release German suplex into the turnbuckle for yet another two count. Ishii ‘blocked’ a series of forearms from Cobb both on the mat and up on the turnbuckle then put Cobb down with a superplex.

Back at their feet the two nailed each other with more stiff shots until Cobb cracked Ishii with a sick headbutt. Ishii answered with a headbutt of his own. Both of them picked up near falls with these attacks. One more brainbuster from Ishii sealed the deal in this hard-hitting and intense contest.

Winner: Ishii

Rey Horus and Rey Fenix vs. Flaminta and Bandito

Our luchadores wasted no time in dazzling the fans with lightning speed and catlike agility.

Fenix looked slick and clean as ever with moves both on and off of the ropes that are hard to describe.

The action didn’t stop with flips and rolls as stiff shots were in no short supply. Flaminta and Bandito got in some hard-hitting offence of their own before four men went sailing to the outside one after the other with flips from the top rope!

There’s so much of this match left out in this recap as you’d have to see it for yourself to fully grasp and believe the skill put on display by these athletes.

A swanton bomb from Rey Fenix got the team a near fall. Rey Horus then sailed over the top rope directly into the guard rail after missing a dive of his own.

Fenix took advantage of the distraction by landing a muscle buster and picking up the pinfall.

Winners: Rey Fenix and Rey Horus

Jason Cade, Matt Classic and Teddy Hart vs. Psicosis & Super Crazy &  Chico el Luchador w/Juventud Guerrera

Matt Classic and Chico started us out with a comedic exchange that saw Chico leading Matt Classic into a “bull fight” using a towel.

Teddy Hart leapt in to score an exciting sunset flip pinning attempt on Super Crazy. A powerbomb/backstabber from Hart kept their opponents at bay while Cade came in to mop up the mess.

Super Crazy and Psicosis combined forces to take control of the match and their masked partner cleared the ring. Teddy Hart launched himself to the outside and Matt Classic very cautiously followed with a “jump” from the apron.

Super Crazy missed a moonsault, but was able to roll up Cade on a distraction for a 3 count.

Winners: Mexicools and Chico.

Adam Brooks vs. Sammy Guevara vs. Shane Strickland vs. Will Ospreay

Brooks and Strickland went head-to-head starting us out before Ospreay and Sammy put on a up-tempo display the saw Sammy coming out on top. Strickland re-entered the fray to showcase his skillset before Brooks slid back into the ring to take advantage of a distracted Strickland.

A tower of wrestlers toppled to the floor with a superplex, that nailed Ospreay in the process and sent him rolling across the canvas. Ospreay took a hard fall into the turnbuckle from a push dropkick, but bounced right back up.

Brooks followed through after clearing the ring with a suicide dive to the outside and Osprey came out of tope with a moonsault over the top rope. Samy Guerra then launched himself onto all of his opponents with a high shooting star press to the outside!

The fast paced contest continued with all men getting equal time on top with a clear favorite yet to emerge.

Sammy Guevara’s pinning attempt off of a shooting star press of interrupted by Ospreay, who nailed Sammy with a springboard cutter for the 3 count.

Winner: Will Ospreay

Sami Callahan, Juice Robinson and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs David Starr, Brian Cage and Minoru Suzuki

Robinson and Starr started out inside while the other four competitors slugged it out around the ring. Tanahashi and Cage then became the centerpiece of the match as the two went 50/50 until Tanahashi and Starr dove to the outside onto one another’s teams.   Not to be outdone, Robinson sailed off of the top rope to the outside and Cage dove over the top rope onto everyone but Suzuki, leaving the NJPW vet as the only man standing. Once things had “calmed down” Callihan went after Starr with crazed brutality and Robinson and Tanahashi kept on the pressure.  Cage tagged and and started picking apart Robinson. When Callihan tried to break it up, Cage both slammed Robinson and powerbombed Callihan at the same time. Eventually the numbers caught up to Cage and he was left lying on the mat.  Tanahashi and Cage then mixed it up until Callihan called out Suzuki from the apron. They traded shots until Callihan sunk his teeth into the bicep of Suzuki, Suzuki made him pay by locking Callihan in an armbar and forcing him to tap out!

After the match, Tanahashi and Suzuki slugged it out in the ring, and exchange that Suzuki ultimately won with a headbutt.

Winners: David Starr, Brian Cage and Minoru Suzuki

Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) vs. Chuck Taylor and Flip Gordon

Taylor started out by introducing us to a list of potential partners for him that included “the swamp monster”, detective Dan Barry and the injured Trent Beretta.

Taylor told Gordon that if he helped Taylor win, Cody would help him get booked in the future.

Gordon and Omega started us out. The two mixed it up with no clear frontrunner until Chuckie T entered the fray against Omega. The two of them scrapped and ultimately began swapping abdominal stretches while Trent Beretta re emerged from the back to share a “cigarette” with Taylor and Gordon.

Ibushi tagged in and let his feet fly against Gordon. The Golden Lovers unleashed a barrage of attacks against Gordon until Cuckie T made the save. Flip tried to save Taylor from Omega’s ensuing assault and took a V Trigger for his trouble. A one-winged angel attempt was broken up by Chuck Taylor, then a Golden Trigger attempt was broken up by Flip Gordon.

Flip Gordon superkicked Omega from the top rope allowing he and Taylor to take the lead in the match. A sunset Flip from Gordon onto Ibushi only netted him a two count. Try as he might he couldn’t pull ahead after that.

The Golden Lovers combined forces one last time for a Golden Trigger on Flip Gordon that got them the pinfall and the victory.

Winners: Golden Lovers
