BRYAN’S BIG BUMP, ANGLE’S ROLE, TAKING A BYE WEEK BEFORE MANIA AND MORE

Maybe I’m just getting soft in my old age, but wasn’t it a little disturbing to see Daniel Bryan take a beatdown in his first appearance after being cleared?  Yes, I know it’s all planned for our entertainment, but Bryan was certainly selling hard, Owens/Zayn were making it look good, and mistakes can happen.

I get where you are coming from but cleared is cleared.  If he is good to go, he will go.  And it got great heat on the heels so now people will really want to see him and Shane team up at Mania.  At the end of the day it’s wrestling, not chess.  It’s a violent, physical business.  A person is either in it or they are not.

I have noticed a lot of the Q&A answers about creative/plotholes seem to be focused on the WWE markets to kids, not adults. I have 2 questions in relation to this. As a weekly episodic TV show around the world, why would the fact the product is marketed to children mean that creative can ignore plotholes? Do the Simpsons do this?

WWE TV is, wait for it, WHAT THE MCMAHONS SAY IT IS.  It’s not what you, me or anyone wish it was.  They put out there what they want to put out there, with young people as the primary audience.  You can complain about the logic lapses all you want, they don’t care.  They will be the ones saying they aren’t marketing to you.  If you choose to ignore that, it’s on you.  Also, The Simpsons is not marketed only to kids.  Part of it’s allure have always been that they market to adults too.

HHH has the past few years been involved in the more adult based storylines, which makes sense given he is known to that portion of the audience. So knowing the adults are watching his storyline more than say John Cena’s, can you explain why Kurt Angle is still the GM of RAW?

Because you have to suspend disbelief sometimes.  Vince McMahon could have solved the Steve Austin problem by firing him but that kills the storyline.  The same holds true here.

With Daniel Bryan cleared to return to the ring, with the absolute love he commands from crowds, is there a chance that the hard-core fans will perceive a DB/Shane v Owens/Zayn match as a disappointing match up and expect a high profile 1 on 1 match for his return?

There isn’t much that hardcore fans can do that will surprise me.  I would hope they wouldn’t turn on the tag match because it’s been really well set up and the heels have been fantastic in getting heat.  I hope the hardcore fans you are worried about instead show that they are actually smart fans.

Should wrestlers be on a lighter or reduced schedule in the weeks leading up to Wrestlemania?  It would make more sense for all to play it safe and have a talent be able to go at Wrestlemania than suffer a major injury on an untelevised house show say, 2 weeks before the big show.  You can still have the wrestlers with main event positions at Wrestlemania appear at all events, but protect them by giving them non-wrestling roles or light duty in multi-person tag matches.

I like that idea.  Sure, they would lose some house show revenue but I like having a bye week or two before Mania.  Most talents always have some kind of nagging injury.  It would be great to get some healing time before the biggest show of the year.
