THREE BOXERS WHO COULD MAKE THEIR APPEARANCE IN WWE THIS YEAR

By Jason Kendall on 2018-03-21 08:15:00

Throughout the history of the WWE, several high profile boxers have made an appearance on the brand, whether that is as part of the promotion of a pay-per-view, like Mike Tyson did ahead of Wrestlemania XIV, or in a contest as Floyd Mayweather was against The Big Show at Wrestlemania XXIV.

There is a strong possibility that the WWE will continue to work with boxers in 2018. Here is a look at three of the biggest names in boxing who could appear in the wrestling ring at some point this year.

Anthony Joshua

British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has become one of the biggest attractions in world boxing. The WBA and IBF champion has blown away all of his opponents since turning professional in October 2013. Joshua announced himself as the number one in the division when he defeated future hall of famer Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley in a classic contest which saw both men on the floor at various points of the fight.

Joshua has the opportunity to add the WBO belt to his collection when he faces Joseph Parker on March 31st in Cardiff ,where he is 1/12 in the latest boxing odds for the fight. If the former Olympic gold medallist does become the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000, he is going to be in huge demand and it would be a fantastic occasion if he was to meet one of the biggest stars in the WWE in either a boxing or wrestling match.

Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alavarez is one of the biggest sports stars in Mexico, as he is very much their flag bearer in the world of sport. The middleweight boxer has won world titles at two different weight divisions and is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet. The Mexican is currently in training for a rematch against Gennady Golovkin in May, after they were involved in a draw in their previous contest last September. Given his popularity in Mexico, the WWE may see him as the perfect fit to try and promote the brand in the country.

Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather is currently retired from boxing but as we saw last year, Money never misses an opportunity to be part of a huge event as he returned to the ring to bring his professional record up to 50-0 with victory over UFC star Conor McGregor back in August.

In his last appearance in the WWE in 2008, Mayweather was involved in a fascinating feud with The Big Show, where there was obviously a huge size difference between the two men. The former boxer is a big personality and therefore is the perfect character for a bad guy role within the brand. Now he has much more time on his hands, Money may fancy a long term role in wrestling, and he could become a regular on our screens.
