NEW MATCH ADDED TO WRESTLEMANIA 34

By Mike Johnson on 2018-03-13 22:22:00

Shane McMahon announced in the closing segment of tonight's Smackdown Live that he was booking Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens at Wrestlemania 34 before the two on-again, off-again frenemies attacked him.  The match announcement amd attack came shortly after McMahon claimed tonight would be his last appearance as he was taking a leave of absence from his storyline duties as Smackdown Commissioner.

The singles bout, if it sticks, would mean that Zayn and Owens face off in a singles bout on WWE's biggest stage of the year. Their rivalry (and at times, tag team) has risen from the Montreal independent wrestling scene to independent events across the world to Ring of Honor and WWE.  A singles bout at Wrestlemania would be a great chapter in their storied feud.

Its entirely possible over the next several weeks we will see the announced match change, especially since Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan, who in storyline has been extremely partial to Zayn and Owens, returns next week.

The most logical idea is that tonight's angle sets up Shane McMahon's return for a Wrestlemania bout in some fashion against Owens and Zayn but time will tell how WWE follows this up.
