CENA VS. ROMAN, PAIGE INJURY & MORE: 12/28 RAW HOLIDAY TOUR AT NASSAU COLISEUM IN LONG ISLAND LIVE REPORT

By Rafi Stern on 2017-12-28 01:36:00

WWE continued the Raw side of their 2017 Holiday Tour at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island on 12/27.

I would say about 80 if not 90% of the arena was full. This is only the second WWE show at Nassau Coliseum since being renovated.

*Matt Hardy defeated Bray Wyatt. Hardy used his new Broken entrance that he debuted last night at MSG. Solid match, great way to start the show.

*Absolution vs. Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Mickie James was stopped as Paige was injured. It was back and forth action by all competitors and a really exciting match, until, unexpectedly Paige was injured during the match while she was working with Sasha.  Paige took a kick around the neck/head region from Sasha and just went down and stayed there.  Sadly, there were negative chants towards Sasha as people realized after a few minutes after the injury, with Paige still lying on the mat, that this was for real and not part of the show.  Paige was checked on by the referee and a doctor   Mickie James went over to Paige and took a knee to pray for a few seconds. James then went across the ring and was comforting Sasha by touching her leg.  The anti-Sasha chants was a pretty classless, disgusting act, by the way.   It was one of those things that happen that remind us how dangerous pro wrestling can be and clearly there was no personal intent to harm Paige. Kudos to Mickie for being the vet and taking care of all in this situation. A stretcher came down to ringside but Paige was never put on it.  She walked with help to the back to a big ovation.

*Elias, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson cut a promo mocking Long Island and getting good heat from fans as they were mocking a Long Island legend, Billy Joel.  Production was rushing to get set up for this.

*Goldust, Rhyno, Slater, Titus O'Neill, Apollo Crews defeated Curt Hawkins, The Revival and the Miztourage.

*WWE Cruiserweight champion Enzo Amore cut a really good promo about how this is the closest thing Long Island has seen to a champion as the Islanders haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1983, and he made fun of them leaving to go play in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Amore defeated Kalisto in a very entertaining matc,h believe it or not. Kalisto used Enzo's wig and put it on top of his mask and got a pretty solid pop from the crowd when he did that.

*Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor in a  back and forth PPV style match with two alented performers doing what they do best.

*Asuka and Dana Brooke defeated Nia Jax and Alexa Bliss.

*Braun Strowman puts Kane through a table to end a brawl. I honestly don't remember if the bell rang to make it an official match or if they came out for a quick fight before intermission.   After the match, Braun was beyond nice and went around the ring and signed autographs and took pictures with lots of kids.

*WWE Raw Tag Team champions Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan defeatedThe Bar in a Steel Cage Match.  This was easily the match of the night from storytelling all the way to the big moves.  The crowd was very into this match.

*WWE Intercontinental champion Roman Reigns defeated John Cena.  It was very pleasant seeing two top stars give it their all at a house show, especially after a night at Madison Square Garden, where you might assume they would slack off a little bit.  That was not the case at all. This was a 20 minute plus, lengthy, entertaining and a PPV quality match with a prodigious amount of effort from both.  It's pretty easy to see why WWE management has so much faith in Roman Reigns, as he really is a spitting image of Cena with his work ethic and being a brand ambassador for the company. After the matchm Cena stood up and shook Romans hand, then slid under the bottom rope to exit the arena to let Roman get the spotlight as it is well deserved.

Solid night of entertainmen from the Raw brand, even with a scary incident.  Everyone was professional and kept the show going with amazing action and excitement.

WWE will be returning to the Nassau Coliseum on 5/7/18 for a live Monday Night Raw!   The pre-sale password for Ticketmaster.com is WWE2018.

Overall, one of the best house shows i have seen in awhile, from start to end.
