By Mike Johnson on 2017-12-16 13:55:00

A interesting development began last night after a Twitter user claimed that Vince McMahon would announce the revival of the WWE's former football league, the XFL, which existed for one season in 2001, next month.

In seeking to confirm the validity of the story, a writer for Deadspin.com, David Bixenspan, received a statement from WWE, which revealed Vince McMahon has formed a new company, Alpha Entertainment, with the eye on making personal investments into sports and entertainment franchises, including a potential football league.

During the XFL ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, the final scene is a dinner between McMahon and legendary NBC sports executive Dick Ebersol where they ponder what would happen if they attempted to launch the XFL today, including McMahon admitting he had recent discussions with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about  what was described as a "minor league NFL."

WWE revived the trademark XFL last year.

So, stay tuned.
