TYSON FURY WOULD CONSIDER WWE CAREER

By Jason Kendall on 2017-12-12 08:16:00

Tyson Fury is never far from the news, whether it's boxing related or not, and his latest comments have caused quite a stir once again from the self-proclaimed 'Gypsy King'.

The now 29-year-old was previously the reigning and undefeated unified heavyweight champion of the world but, after incredibly dethroning long-standing and dominant titlist Wladimir Klitschko in Germany in 2015, his career went south.

Fury became involved in a drug scandal that saw his boxing license revoked, but the former champion has been back in the gym in recent months and is continuing to target a high-profile return to the sport at some stage during 2018.

In his absence, it has been London-born fighter Anthony Joshua that has benefited most, becoming world champion and arguably the newest face of boxing, alongside the likes of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin.

In a potential blockbuster showdown with fellow Briton Joshua, Fury would take to the ring as the +125.00 underdog to emerge victorious in the latest boxing betting. The pair have long been tipped to face off and such a super fight could become a reality if Fury's upcoming UKAD hearing goes in his favour and he's officially allowed to make a big comeback.

But while his boxing career is on hold for the moment, Fury recently raised a few eyebrows by suggesting he would be interested in taking up a new sport in the near future if he was asked to do so. He was, of course, talking about pro wrestling, while he ruled out ever stepping into the Octagon for the UFC.

Speaking during a podcast session with fellow heavyweight and colourful boxing character Dave Allen, Fury outlined his intentions to move to the WWE, if the big call from Vince McMahon ever came in the near future.

"I haven't been asked to do it but I would consider it," stated the controversial former world heavyweight champion. "But aren't I too fat to go on the WWE? Well, WWE if you are listening to 'The White Rhino Podcast', call me."

So could a WWE career be on the horizon for Tyson Fury? Stranger things have happened to fighters after their boxing careers have come to an end, or even during that time. After the freakshow that was Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor in a boxing ring in August at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, anything seems possible at the moment.

It's evident that boxing has enjoyed its best year in 2017 for quite some time, with it having been a throwback to the days of old when the best fought the best in each division. Fury hasn't been a part of it in a fighting sense, but he has always been there floating around with his antics and words outside of the ring.

So, as he continues his efforts in the gym for a big comeback in 2018, could his return actually be in the WWE rather than the sport in which he became crowned world heavyweight champion two years ago?
