Sylvester Stallone teased on his Instagram account this afternoon that he would be making a major announcement shortly and referred to Brock Lesnar:
"Big challenges come in all shapes and forms! Very cool announcement at noon! #brocklesnar #rockybalboa1976"
Stallone's next film in the Rocky film franchise is Creed 2, which continues the story of Rocky Balboa mentoring Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky's original rival, Apollo Creed. The premise for the film is that Creed will face off with Victor Drago, the son of the man who killed his father in Rocky IV, Ivan Drago. The film is set to begin filming in February in Philadelphia.
Casting for Victor has called for a "big fighter" in his 20s-30s. PWInsider.com has confirmed that Producers have been seeking someone with legitimate amateur or professional fighting experiences, specifically MMA. That certainly would fit Lesnar to a tee. Producers have been reading potential actors for the role in recent weeks. It's a major role in the film, one of the most important characters.
So, it may very well be that Lesnar is going to be cast as Drago's son...or it could be a swerve on Stallone's part, as he has other projects such as Expendables 4 being worked on. Stay tuned.
Update 3:11 PM EST - Stallone's announcement was that he has stepped aside as Director of the film in favor of Stephen Caples Jr. Why he included Brock Lesnar in his tease, if that is all he is announcing, is beyond me.
