PAIGE'S RETURN, WWE UK SERIES, NWA CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2017-10-20 10:00:00

Any update on Paige?

Paige has been at the WWE Performance Center regularly in recent weeks preparing for an in-ring return.

If WWE is on Sky, how can they be talking to ITV about a TV series?

I wrote they are pitching multiple broadcasters, including ITV, about the British series.  That doesn't mean Sky is not one of them.  It could be they have permission to speak to other broadcasters. I only know they are putting pitches together, which is the same as putting the line in the water and hoping the fish bite.  We are a long way away from the King of the Ring series launching.

I seem to remember a great music video about Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat when I was a kid.  Do you remember what the song was?

The Final Countdown by Europe.

Concerning the UK development that Mike wrote about, is it still planned to be available on the Network in the United States? Also, do you think they should make more of an effort going forward to have U.K. talent on Takeover shows and even RAW/SD Live from the UK? Imagine a surprise bout between AJ Styles and Pete Dunn?

It's too soon to say but all WWE programming ends up on the Network in the end, even if there is a delay.  WWE's main source is TV rights, so if they can get someone to pay them for he UK show and then have it on the Network, that's a much better deal than producing it themselves, especially since there's no sign that producing it and placing it on the Network is going to make their Network subscriptions jump.   I like the idea of having the talents on Takeover, etc. as special attractions, but I wouldn't want to just toss marquee matches out there without a build.  Make it special.

Do you think the NWA will keep using all of their existing championships?

I doubt they know what they are going to do with all of their belts, especially since there are so many titles.  They may the rights to all of these belts, but given they don't intend to run until the Spring, I sincerely doubt they have made plans for all of the belts that exist.   They are starting from square one.  They are obviously focusing on the NWA championship right now with the goal of getting it over as something important.  They are just starting to present Tim Storm as the NWA champion and that's their focus thus far.
