COULD WE SEE GGG IN WWE?

Could We See Golovkin in the Wrestling Ring?

We've had lots of stars from the fight world making cameos in professional wrestling, and in return, there have been sports entertainment superstars going the opposite way. Floyd Mayweather notably featured in a feud against Big Show back in 2008, which set up a Wrestlemania 24 'No Holds Barred' Contest that fared well with the viewers.

With Floyd now retired (again) and his many millions accrued, there's a small chance he could return, but it's unlikely. More likely is one of the current crop and their relevant fanbase stepping through the WWE's ropes.

Heavyweights like Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder would look the part squaring off against the big men, but Gennady Golovkin could evoke a similar storyline to Mayweather – the smaller specialist taking on the seasoned shooters in a David vs. Goliath contest.

Whilst he could be involved in a build-up with one of the WWE's stars, it could also work to add excitement in a number of ways. Imagine GGG running down the ramp and sliding under the bottom rope to incite fear into his foes in a Royal Rumble. Even +250 favorites in the online betting, John Cena and Roman Reigns, would be forced to take a back step against the hard-hitting Kazakhstan boxer.

The surprise entrant has always been a huge favorite in the yearly event, and although someone like GGG would be from the left field, it would give some added spice to proceedings.

It's not the only way to work the middleweight in, however. He could be given an even bigger role, as he does have the pedigree to take on something more challenging. The iron-chinned champion has experience in close-quarters combat, and wrestled for seven years as a teenager before concentrating on boxing.

As well as the physical attributes, coming in to the biggest fight of his career against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Golovkin also got more used to being in the spotlight and the greater emphasis on the build-up to the event.

As the two warriors were announced to be facing off, a WWE-esque entrance and face-off for GGG as the confetti fell and the challenger made his way to the ring to square off against Alvarez after he had won his bout against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

This wasn't a common trick in the world of boxing, but in wrestling, it is standard fare. Usually more reserved, Golovkin was forced out of his shell and to sell the match-up in order to build his share of the pay-per-view revenue as much as possible.

Now, he also sees the value in promoting himself and his brand, as the superfight was a success and gave him his biggest payday to date. The payoff for a cameo in the WWE ring would be his introduction to a new set of fans, who may be able to cross over as supporters when he laces up his gloves again.

With the added bonus of a Kazakhstan fanbase, as well as a US one, there are several strings to Golovkin's bow which could see him as a possible feature in the future.
