WWE'S STARRCADE REVIVAL GOING HEAD TO HEAD WITH WRESTLECADE, TWENTY MINUTES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2017-09-18 12:06:00

The WWE announcement that they will be reviving the Starrcade event and running it as a special event on Saturday 11/25 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the event's original venue The Greensboro Coliseum is already having a ripple effect locally in the Carolinas.   The same night as Starrcade, twenty minutes away in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the Benton Convention Center is slated to be the three day Wrestlecade event, one of the top independent events in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Wrestlecade, an annual event that features signings, Q&A sessions and a series of live events, has been held over the post-Thanksgiving weekend since 2012, initially as a one day event before expanding over the course of the weekend.

This year's event is slated to feature signing in the convention portion of the event, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Jerry Lawler, Mick Foley, JJ Dillon, Nikita Koloff, Lex Luger, Mil Mascaras, Matt Striker, Carlito, Dean Malenko, Rocky Johnson, Jake Roberts, The One Man Gang, Brutus Beefcake, Ronnie Garvin, Barry Windham, Sabu, Jimmy Hart, Taya, John Hennigan, Joey Matthews, Shane Helms, Rikishi, Laurel Van Ness, GFW champ Eli Drake, Rey Fenix, Penta 0M, Grandmaster Sexay, Butch Reed, Ron Simmons, Allie, Angelina Love, Crazzy Steve, Crimson, Jax Dane, Rachel Ellering, Renee Michelle, Madison Rayne, Terry Taylor, Fred "Shockmaster" Ottman, The Barbarian, Super Crazy, Demolition, D'Lo Brown, Baby Doll, CW Anderson, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Kid Kash, George South, Bugsy McGraw, Tommy Rich, Swoggle, Jack Swagger, Kevin Thorne, PN News, Jimmy Valiant, Lady Blossom, Juventud Guerrera, Teddy Long, Ivellise, Bruce Prichard, PJ Black, Madusa, Gillberg, Marty Jannetty, Jillian Hall, The Boogeyman, Al Snow and The Honky Tonk Man, among others.  Some will be wrestling as well, as will be a slew of independent talents from all over the country.

This year's edition is also scheduled to feature "Fire on the Mountain", a tribute to Smoky Mountain Wrestling with Jim Cornette, Stan Lane, Bobby Eaton, Bob Armstrong, Tom Prichard, Dutch Mantel, Bobby Fulton and Bobby Blaze, among others SMW alumni appearing.  There is slated to be a panel discussion about SMW as well as a live event promoted by Charlotte-based Queens of Combat.

The main event of the weekend, however, was the annual Wrestlecade live event, which is slated for Saturday 11/25, which with today's announcement, now places it directly opposite the WWE Starrcade event, which WWE will obviously be heavily promoting locally and nationally.

Given the timing of Wrestlecade and how many WWE Producers and Hall of Famers are booked, more than a few readers have asked about whether WWE booked the show in response to the long-announced Wrestlecade event, which was announced a year ago, and regularly draws more than 1,000 fans.

PWInsider.com is told the promoters of Wrestlecade are currently deciding what to do in regard to WWE now running the same night, but no decisions have been made.
