WRESTLERS AND THE CONTROL THEY HAVE ON PROMOS, RESPECTING THE LEGENDS, FAKE NEWZ IN WRESTLING AND MORE

I have a couple questions about finishers.  Why do you think it is some finishers made famous by certain wrestlers are used by many while one like "The Stone Cold Stunner" specifically are not?  That move in particular stands out because while we see variations of it you don't really see it used the way Austin did it very much.  Is it a respect thing?  If so, with it being such a popular move wouldn't maybe a storyline where he teaches/passes it on to someone make sense?

Yep, most of the time it’s out of respect to a top guy that no one else uses their finisher.  Austin would have to be on board with doing that, like HHH did with Seth Rollins.  It would definitely be a good way to give a young guy that they were behind a rub, if Austin wanted to do it.  That is the big if.

Johnny Impact was featured at the beginning of the show, in the opening montage. They showed him as a part of their tour. Why, exactly, was he referred to a "surprise" entrant? Why were Borash and Matthews so shocked to see him?

They were shocked because they were told to be shocked.  But yeah, I hear ya.

If the plan all along was to have O'Reilly and Fish show up with Adam Cole in the closing moments of NXT Takeover, why would they book both O'Reilly and Fish to lose their debut matches to Aleister Black beforehand?

NXT is a different animal than WWE.  A guy losing in NXT isn’t as detrimental as it often is in WWE.  Plus, they lost to Black, a guy who will be getting a mega push.  And if they are back as a tag team, what they did as singles doesn’t matter as much.

How much control do wrestlers have over their promos? I know it's very scripted on WWE, but I'm more curious about if they can refuse to do certain things. Obviously they are hired professionals, who get paid a lot to do what they do, but sometimes they have to cross a line. The specific "incident" I have in mind is that Paige/Charlotte promo, where they brought up Reid Flair, which was just pathetic. Could Paige have refused to go to that low? I guess she would have been afraid of the potential repercussions, but I'm curious what you think would have happened.

On sensitive issues, like that, WWE will talk with the talent and make sure that they are OK with it.  Obviously, if creative really wants to do it that puts the talent in a position to say no and risk getting the “hard to work with” label, or just having creative sour on them.  So it’s kind of like the First Amendment in that they have the right to refuse something but that doesn’t keep them from dealing with repercussions of doing so.

What is your take on the reports that came out yesterday about Rusev asking for his release and the confrontation with booking?

That story wasn’t true.  From what I was told, it was started by people I never heard of, on a podcast that I never heard of.  It was a bogus story.  The sad thing is that some of the copy and paste NEWZ sites, which usually know better and only cite information from credible sources, ran with the story and that led major outlets to pick it up.  So it was totally irresponsible for the podcast people to do it, but they are just a couple of guys that no one takes seriously.  When big sites pick it up, citing the unaccredited sites, that is just really poor work on their part.
