WWE SMACKDOWN REPORT: MATCHES ANNOUNCED FOR BATTLEGROUND, WOMEN'S TAG MATCH, US OPEN CHALLENGE RETURNS, FASHION RANGERS, AND MORE

By Richard Trionfo on 2017-07-11 21:59:00

We begin with a look at the Number One Contender Battle Royal for the United States Title from last week's Smackdown.  We see the match between Kevin Owens and AJ Styles from Madison Square Garden when AJ Styles won the United States Title.

We are in San Antonio, Texas and your announcers are Tom Philips, John Layfield, and Byron Saxton.

AJ Styles makes his way to the ring.

Byron talks about the reaction from the crowd in Madison Square Garden when AJ won the US Title.

AJ says it looks like Battleground came a little early for him at Madison Square Garden.  He would never say he was the face of America, but he says that he is an upgrade from Kevin Owens.  This is not about Kevin Owens.  This is not about AJ Styles.  This is about the United States Championship around his waist and what it represents.  It wasn't a long time ago that the US Champion would want to prove he was the best.  That person called it the US Open Challenge.  AJ says it is about time they brought it back.

Every time you see a man with this title around his waist, you will know that he is the best.  If there is any WWE Superstars who disagrees, tonight is your lucky night.  Tonight, you could come out here and prove him wrong.  Right here, right now is AJ Styles US Open Challenge and it starts . . . right . . . now.

AJ waits for a challenger and . . .

it is John Cena.

John says he just wanted to make sure that AJ realizes what he just said.  He said US Championship Open Challenge.  John asks if it is for anyone but him.

AJ says it is for John and especially for John.

John says that makes it simple.  He accepts and he wants it right here, right now.

Match Number One:  John Cena versus AJ Styles for the United States Title

Before the match starts, Kevin Owens' music plays and he makes his way to the ring, as he walks around his face on the stage.

Kevin says nobody wants to see another stupid AJ Styles versus John Cena match.  We already had to sit through too many of them.  The only thing people should care about is the rightful owner of that belt gets it back, and that is him.  Kevin wants to know why John is back.  Nobody misses him and we do not need him here.  John does not deserve to be anywhere near his title.  He tells John to leave.

John says it isn't that you don't want to see him, it is you can't see him.  He says Kevin is like everybody else who runs their mouth and wants them to leave.  He tells the Michelin man to get in the ring and try to do it.  He says that he will run through Owens and then he will run through Styles.

Rusev attacks Cena and Styles throws Rusev out of the ring.  Owens with a pop up power bomb to Styles and Rusev with a jumping thrust kick to Cena followed by the Accolade.

We go to commercial.

Match Number One:  Tye Dillinger versus Jinder Mahal (with The Singhs) in a Non Title Match

Winner:  Jinder Mahal

After the match, Jinder takes the mic and he says that week after week he tells the truth, but you disrespect him.  You can boo him all you want because the Modern Day Maharaja brings dignity and class to the WWE.  You people still cheer for that snake Randy Orton.  Randy, you want to threaten his people and his family?  Chanting USA does not change the fact that 1.3 billion people of the great nation of India know that Jinder Mahal is the greatest champion of all time.

Randy, you want to make his life a living hell?  Next week, he brings hell to Randy Orton.  Next week, he brings the Punjabi Prison.

The New Day walk in the back and Big E tries to give someone in the back singlet Booty-Os.

We go to commercial.

Woods goes for an O'Connor roll but Jey holds on to the ropes and hits a super kick for a near fall.  Jey goes up top and hits Woods' boots when he tries for a frog splash.  Wood is sent to the apron and Jey punches Woods.  Woods with an enzuigiri on the apron and Woods goes up top while Jey hangs on the middle rope and Woods with an elbow drop for the three count.

We are back and Shane McMahon is on the phone with Daniel Bryan and he says no one is asking about James Ellsworth.

Naomi enters the office and she wants to know who she defends the Smackdown Women's Title against and she hopes it is not Lana.

Charlotte enters and she says if it is Ellsworth, they will have to ban her from the building.  Becky, Lana, Natalya, and Tamina all enter.

Shane says there will be a five way elimination match to determine who faces Naomi at SummerSlam.

Charlotte says she thought this was the Land of Opportunity, not the Land of Make Believe.

Tamina tells Charlotte to watch her mouth.  Natalya wonders why Charlotte has to worry about this since he has done everything on her family's coattails.  Becky says that Bret . . . Natalya is one to talk.

Shane says there is a match tonight with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair against Natalya and Tamina Snuka.

Carmella enters and she has a Petition from her attorney to have James Ellsworth reinstated.

Carmella holds up her briefcase while Naomi holds up her title belt.  Shane rips up the Petition and he says the decision stands.

Baron Corbin is interviewed by Renee Young and they look at the WWE wrestler angle at the monitor showing what happened last week between Baron Corbin and Shinsuke Nakamura.  Renee says that Nakamura is not afraid of Baron.  Baron says he is afraid of what he is going to do to Nakamura.  He is Mr. Money in the Bank and Nakamura is not.  Tonight, it will be sayonara Nakamura.

We go to commercial.
