WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TODAY: THE WRESTLEMANIA 33 TIP SHEET IS NOW ONLINE

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2017-04-02 14:28:00

Universal Championship Match
Goldberg (c) vs. Brock Lesnar

Dave: There is no way Goldberg should win here.  If Brock wins, it isn't exactly huge but the Title has to get back onto a guy who doesn't qualifiy for AARP.  And after Brock wins, he needs to lose the Title immediately.  In my mind, it should be to Finn Balor, who never lost his Title in the first place.  It should happen on Raw but I wouldn't be shocked to see it happen after this match at Mania somehow.  Vince doesn't always see what makes long term sense mattering more than the shocking, in the moment pop. And he loves to entertain his once a year fans.

Mike: This will go at least 15 minutes and have all the bells and whistles.  I think they will tease the quick ending only to make it a big false finish.  In the end, Lesnar will hit the F5 and get the win.  But, before that, I expect a good fight.

Richard:  Will this be Bill's longest match since his return?  Will this go five minutes?  Let Lesnar win so he can get revenge for being speared fifty times since this feud began.  If Heyman is not doing ongoing commentary, is there a reason to watch this match?

WWE Championship Match
Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Randy Orton

Dave: Bray beat John Cena and AJ Styles in the same night to win the Title.  He then pinned Cena two days later.  There is no way that Orton should win here.  The goal is to make Bray a top guy and a step on that path should be by having him beat Orton here.  If Randy wins, what is the point?

Mike:  If this closes the show, Randy should win, because WWE loves to have a big babyface ending.  If it doesn't, Bray should retain.  This should be about solidifying Bray as the monster at the top of the pyramid.  I think that they will have a hell of a match, as long as Orton is motivated.

Richard:  With the way that I have commented on the Bray Wyatt run, I am surprised I have enjoyed Wyatt's title reign.  It should be AJ in this match instead of Orton, but at least there is a back story behind this.  I think Wyatt should retain, but I can see them giving the title to Orton.  Let AJ face the winner so he can get his one-on-one match.

The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns

Dave: This should be a total cluster from the fan point of view.  The guy that most want to see lose taking on the legend.  And that guy will win here.  They can try a heel turn.  They can have Taker give Reigns the rub.  It won't matter.  Unless they have a great plan, this will not be well received.  Then again, anyone with a bit of insight already knew that and would have never booked it in the first place.  Oh well.

Mike: The right thing to do, whether Taker is coming back or not, is for Roman to crush him en route to going full blown heel.  I don't know that WWE would have the gall to go all that way, but I hope they do.  This will probably be stronger than some are expecting.

Richard:  Will Reigns get the win to be the "TWO' in Taker's Mania record or will the Deadman have a resident for the grave he dug last week.  At least Taker's entrance will be epic.

John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. The Miz & Maryse

Dave: I know a lot of people hated Cena tearing down Miz on Smackdown.  In the moment, I was OK with it because Miz did it to Cena first.  Now, if Cena and Nikki win on Sunday, which they very well may, it was a total waste.  Cena is leaving for a while.  Nikki is probably doing the same.  They should give Miz a rub here.  If they do, it's good booking.  If they don't, it's a cluster.

Mike:  Cena and Nikki win with stereo AAs.  Miz's reward for a year of hard work is working Cena at Mania.  Not a bad reward.

Richard:  I do . . . will we hear that at some point from John or Nikki's lips?  Miz has been great on the mic during this feud while Cena has fallen back into 'You are number X of people who have tried to take my place . . . and failed' persona.  The happy ending would be John and Nikki winning and in the heat of the moment, we get the proposal that Miz and Maryse mocked so much.  If Miz and Maryse win, they will be insufferable on Tuesday so let that happen.

Seth Rollins vs. Triple H

Dave: This story has been booked to have Rollins vanquish H and take the next step toward making him a, if not the, top babyface on Raw.  If HHH wins, it makes no sense at all.  They need to go with what makes sense here.

Mike: They will have ALL the brawling and weapons bells and whistles I am sure, plus Samoa Joe can get involved.  But, in the end, if Rollins doesn't get the win WITH the Pedigree, they will have ruined him.  Triple H roasted him so bad, physically and verbally, that Rollins HAS to win.

Richard: Seth's health will probably determine how much of Shenaniganapalooza we get. Seth should win, but will he?  I can see Joe get involved in the match to try to help Hunter but it can fall short of giving Hunter the victory.  However, if Hunter is the cerebral assassin, why does he need help?  He can outsmart any opponent, and this opponent is injured.  The finish will be a pedigree and I think Hunter will be felled by his own move.

Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles

Dave: Just like I said above, Shane beat AJ makes zero sense.  AJ is a full time, great worker.  Shane has to be used here to put him over.  If it's me, I have Shane do the job, show AJ respect, and start moving AJ babyface.  He is money and should be treated as such.

Mike: There is absolutely no good reason for AJ to not to win here....Unless Vince McMahon wants his son to win because it's his so.  They should do a very physical match.  I can see this being a lot better than some are giving this to be potentially.  Styles is in an A+ class right now and Shane has great cardio and tries really hard to push himself.  I expect them to push the envelope as much as they can.  AJ up.

Richard:  AJ should win this match.  AJ needs to win this match.  Somehow, I can see AJ not winning this match, and that would be a mistake.  AJ has had a great year and should be rewarded for not winning last year at Mania.  I know that there have been rumblings about AJ changing brands and after AJ destroys Shane, they can have Shane say that he cannot in good faith have AJ on Smackdown because of his animosity over the match (see, you can have a conflicted authority figure do the right thing, not the Steph thing)

Raw Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match
Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

Dave: If it's me, I have Bayley beat all the odds and retain.  The last thing I do is have Sasha turn heel on here.  So, I am scared.  I see them working together to minimize Nia and Charlotte coming out of it with the belt.  There is a way to do that that will keep everyone strong.  I hope that if they go that way, they take heed of that.

Mike: This should be great.  I hope this is given time.  I am excited to see the Bayley entrance.  At the end of the day, while my heart says Bayley retains, I almost expect Sasha to turn after Bayley eliminates her, setting the stage for Charlotte to score the pin and get the belt back.  Nia is the real question mark here, but I think if she has a strong performance before getting DQ'd, they would have protected her.

Richard:  Can they do something to force the title to be vacated?  They have booked Bayley the exact opposite way most people would have.  The telegraphing of a Sasha turn has been so obvious.  This should have been the time when Charlotte's PPV streak ended (it is the same building her father's career ended in, and they could have built up Charlotte mocking her dad for losing here 9 years ago [but that would have telegraphed too much]).  Let's see what Nia can do with the belt and let Sasha and Bayley develop their feud without a title in the way.

United States Championship Match
Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kevin Owens

Dave: Owens should have gone into the show as the Universal Champion but that didn't happen.  What also shouldn't happen is for him to lose here.  The nice ending is Jericho winning, but Y2J is heading on a Fozzy tour and he, more than anyone, knows what a veteran's role is and that is to put over the full time guy.  He should do that here.  If he doesn't, it's just a case of Vince wanting to make the once a year fans happy, and that shouldn't happen here.

Mike: This should be a fun brawl.   WWE has done a decent job of building this one and Jericho's work of late has been very inspired.  To me, Owens' first singles bout at Wrestlemania is a really big deal.  I don't see them swinging and missing here.  In the end, Jericho is heading out soon to tour with Fozzy, so while it's possible they switch the belt, I expect that later down the line, not tomorrow.  So, Jericho retains.

Richard:  If I had to rank the matches on this show, this would be my number two.  Some of the shenanigans with Jericho has made me lose interest, but Owens is back to the character he was when he started in WWE.  It is all about him and nothing else matters to him.  I would like this to be a convincing victory or do something to explain Chris' potential absence due to touring.  And we need a video of Owens' daughter telling Jericho he is on her Daddy's list.

Intercontinental Championship Match
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Baron Corbin

Dave: This match didn't get much of a push on Smackdown this week, which is a damn shame.  I think they will have a great match.  Corbin needs to win here and should.  Ambrose doesn't need a belt and it would really help Corbin to get a win here.

Mike:  There are times when a title win can help someone strengthen their persona and their placement in the roster.  To me, Corbin needs this win.  Ambrose is sort of a made man at this point in the eyes of the fans, so I'd like to see WWE switch the belt here.

Richard:  Corbin should win but that probably means that Ambrose will retain.  Goofy Ambrose hasn't clicked with me so please bring back the Roddy Piper/Stan Hansen hybrid I enjoyed in the past.  Corbin should be positioned like Strowman is on Raw (other than being put in the Andre Battle Royal this year).  Corbin has that unlikeable character that few have in WWE today.  Then give a feud between Harper and Corbin and all can be good in my universe.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match
Champion Alexa Bliss to defend against all female SmackDown LIVE Superstars who are available to compete

Dave: Alexa has been one of the best things in WWE and I wish she would have gotten a better placement on the show. With Naomi's return on Smackdown, I could definitely see her returning home and winning the Title in a WrestleMania moment.

Mike: There is no good reason for Alexa to lose here.  I think this should be a solid match, although the nature of the multi-woman bout means its going to be hard to get any real flow going.

Richard:  The Naomi big win already happened but I still think winning in her home town would get a good reaction.  I want to see Alexa win because I think she is the best thing about the women's division, but WWE does not cater to my whims.  Something should happen to Ellsworth if he sticks his nose in the match.

Raw Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Ladder Match
Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. Cesaro & Sheamus

Dave: I really think that Gallows and Anderson need to and should win here.  With that said, I think Vince wants to push Cass and it wouldn't shock me to see him put the tag belts on him and Enzo.  If it were me, I would have the champs and Cesaro and Sheamus be the focal points.  It would be easy to do since Enzo makes it easy to take him out given how small he is.

Mike: I am calling it now.  The Hardys will appear.  There's no way they add a ladder match at the last minute unless we see them show up in some fashion.  I have no idea why I feel this way but just have that gut feeling.  We will see.   Without the Hardys, the Ladder thing feels so out of place and forced.  Unless the Hardys arrive and win the belts, I am going with a big Enzo and Cass victory.

Richard:  The subtitle for this match should be 'what can we throw Enzo off of'.  Whatever we may say about the Smackdown tag team division and the Raw is not much better, at least the Raw tag titles are being defended.  Some of the people in this match are not really suited for ladder matches.  I would like to see Sheamus and Cesaro win the titles back, but I think there will be 75,000 people chanting How You Doin' when Enzo and Cass win the titles.

The Fourth Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Featuring Big Show, Sami Zayn, Braun Strowman, Apollo Crews, Mojo Rawley and more Superstars

Dave: If anyone other than Braun Strowman wins this, it's a travesty.  He shouldn't even be in this match but since he is, he had better win it.

Mike: Unless they are going to surprise us with Finn Balor, Braun all the way.

Richard:  Many men will be in this match and most will not remember this match when it is over.  The last time there was a battle royal in Orlando at Wrestlemania, the winner got to challenge for the ECW title.  Strowman should win, but does he really want to win because of the legacy of not so great things for the winners?

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match
Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries

Dave: I have been loving both of these guys in their current roles.  They deserved to be on the big show and given the time to tear down the house.  Sadly, that won't happen.  Aries has really benefitted by his injury as it gave him time to get over with the fans via his announcing duties.  If it were me, I would book it to be really close and Neville finding a way to win, but I see Vince liking Aries and going with him winning the Title.

Mike: WWE has spent months getting Austin Aries over with the idea that he's a big deal.  His first major match on a major scale for WWE, I don't see him losing.  To me, this has a lot of potential to be a great back and forth competitive bout with some good highspots and near falls.  Neville has been awesome and I'd like to see this start a back and forth series, a la the old Malenko-Guerrero Classic.

Richard:   This is the match on the show that I am looking forward to the most, so why not have it happen first.  I liked that Aries addressed the concern from the fans about this being on the Kickoff show by following the Jericho thought process of 'Wherever I am on the show, my match will be the best'.  Neville's "nEVILle' character has been the best thing on 205 Live until . . . Austin Aries returned to his role as a wrestler.  I can see Aries winning the title, but I would like to see Neville hold it a bit longer.  These are the two men who have been booked to look strongest.  Who is the next challenger when they are done?
