FORMER WWE WORLD CHAMPION SAYS HE REQUESTED RELEASE FROM COMPANY

By Mike Johnson on 2017-03-01 16:31:00

Former WWE World champion Jack Swagger, 34, has requested and his release from WWE, according to an appearance on Chael Sonnen's podcast, where Swagger noted that he requested to be let go as he wasn't receiving opportunities with the company.

Swagger had been with the company since signing a developmental deal in 2006 and received his biggest push in 2009, when he cashed in Money in the Bank and won the World Championship.

When partnered with Zeb Colter (who, interesting to point out, is now head of creative for TNA), Swagger had a big run that resulted in Swagger challenging Alberto Del Rio for the World championship at Wrestlemania 29.

Swagger had not received a sizable push in some time from the company.  In 2013, he was arrested for DUI, possession of marijuana and speeding in Louisiana following a WWE TV taping.  He was convicted and sentenced to six months probation and hit with a $500 fine.  The marijuana was charge was dismissed, but Swagger was never given a long push again.

Swagger is still listed on the WWE roster as of this writing.   He has not appeared on TV in months.
