BALOR & NAKAMURA VS. REVIVAL: 5/27 WWE NXT IN COCOA BEACH, FL LIVE REPORT

By Andrew Twiss on 2016-05-27 23:48:00

Here are full results from NXT Live in Cocoa Beach, FL on May 27, 2016.

Andrea D'Marco and Mike Rome are your hosts and ring announcers for the evening.

- Patrick Clark def. Dan Matha - Solid opener. Matha used his considerable size advantage to keep Clark off balance. Mixing a few power moves and some submissions, he kept Clark on the ropes for most of the match. Clark would eventually find an opening to hit a missile dropkick for the win.

- The Authors of Pain (Gzim Selmani and Sunny Dhinsa) def. Chris Atkins and Noah - This was mostly a squash. Selmani and Dhinsa attacked before the bell. Noah would fight back briefly, but he and Atkins were overwhelmed. The Authors of Pain have a very Demolition-esque feel to them. They're the closest equivalent. Dhinsa and Selmani are two thick guys who just beat people up and aren't fancy about it.

- Adrienne Reese def. Mandy - A surprisingly fun match. Each time I see Mandy, she is better in the ring. She moves very well in there and is aggressive in her offense. Reese is always impressive. They got a lot of time and they were able to keep the pace for the most part. Seeing Mandy makes me wonder what Eva Marie would be like today if she had the tools and opportunity to learn in a lower pressure situation that Mandy does. Just an idle thought.

- Angelo Dawkins def. Tucker Knight- A decent match, but nothing special. Unfortunately, a lot of Dawkins' matches fall flat after a while. Knight has good size to him and he's just starting to learn how to use it. He still needs time and work though. Dawkins got the win with a rollup and his feet on the ropes.

- Tye Dillinger def. Buddy Murphy - Before the match, Tye was doing his speech about how he was the perfect 10. The crowd started "You got dumped" to Murphy. In response, Tye asked for Alexa Bliss' phone number. The match itself was fun. Murphy is an underrated talent. He's very good at moving around the ring, has great personality, and is a solid worker. I'd love to see more of these two in the ring together.

Post match: Murphy was hunched down in the ring with the ref and trainer for a few minutes. He slowly made it to the back under his own power. The audience gave him a nice ovation. As he made it to the curtain,  he looked back towards the crowd and yelled "Shut up!" Good stuff.

- Lana and Nia Jax def. Asuka and Daria Berenato - Nia pinned Daria for the win. This was another surprisingly decent match. A lot of it was Nia and Asuka working against each other, with Lana coming in on occasion. For as easy as Lana is on the eyes, her inexperience was showing through the match. She's very early on in her in ring career, so this is to be expected.

- Elias Samson def. Chris Girard - There was nothing technically wrong with the match. It just was never particularly interesting. I dig the Drifter character, but he has to find another level to his work because a lot of his matches are just flat out uninteresting.

- Mike Rome brought Brazilian recruit Cezar Bononi out for a short interview. Bononi talked about the hard work he was doing and the sacrifice of being 4000 miles from home. Simple, solid stuff and not bad for a guy for whom English is not his first language.

- Finn Balor and Shinsuke Nakamura def. The Revival - Oh man was this a fun match. Not just from an in ring standpoint, but also from four guys who know how to be entertaining in what they do. Early on, Dash and Dawson get trying to double team Finn and Shinsuke, only to end up hitting each other. After several frustrating bits, the two started arguing and teasing a fight, with Finn and Nakamura in the ring to egg them on. At one point, Nakamura was shadow boxing with Dash to warm him up. The Revival teased the fight until turning back to their opponents, only to get tossed out of the ring. The Revival would eventually use their dirty tactics to work Finn and Nakamura over until the good guys made the big comeback and hit dual finishers for the win. Really fun match and a damn shame that it won't be released on the Network or YouTube or somewhere for the general public to see.

Notes:

- Meet and Greet before the show was: Hugo Knox, Tucker Knight, and Daria Berenato.

- NXT returns to Cocoa Beach on June 25
