OKADA TRADEMARK FILING, VxS DEBUTING IN NYC, TAMMY SYTCH, ALEXANDER HAMMERSTONE & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2024-01-16 12:00:00

Kazuchika Okada filed for a trademark on "Rainmaker", which has been his nickname as well on 1/12.  The trademark filing was for "Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network."  Interesting to note that Michael Dockins, an attorney who assists many AEW talents with their trademark needs, is the attorney of record here.

PBS Twin Cities will be airing their new Jesse Ventura documentary tonight.  If anyone sees it, we are seeking reports.

ViceTV will air their Nine Lives Of...Arnold Schwarzenegger documentary on the WWE Celebrity Hall of Famer tomorrow at 10 PM Eastern.

The feature film Ponyboi, which features WrestlePro and AEW's Kevin Matthews, will be competing this week as part of the Sundance Film Festival's Dramatic competiton in Utah.  Promotional material for the film notes, "Unfolding over the course of Valentine’s Day in New Jersey, a young intersex sex worker must run from the mob after a drug deal goes sideways, forcing him to confront his past.  Ponyboi bursts off the screen in this bombastic, edgy, and campy roller-coaster ride of a film. Flipping the script on the LGBTQIA+ return home tale and the classic Jersey mobster saga, this neon-soaked story is not only full of action but also pure moments of tenderness. Complicated and hilarious, Ponyboi’s journey exposes a kaleidoscope of ways humanity is sugary sweet under hard surfaces. Backdrops of laundromats, diners, and the Jersey Shore create a heightened sense of place and time that is at once precisely transportative and fantastically imaginary."

TrillerTV+ will be airing a Best of Alexander Hammerstone collection on 1/19.  Hammerstone had a great bout against Josh Alexander at TNA Hard To Kill over the weekend.

VxS, a really good promotion that has run on both Coasts, will make their New York City debut at the Elks Lodge in Queens, NY on 2/23 with Lio Rush vs. AAA luchador Arez plus Coly Corino, Homicide, Sami Callihan, Myron Reed, Terry Yaki, Dante Leon and more.  The event will stream live on TrillerTV+ for subscribers.

Tammy Sytch is now listed as scheduled to be released from prison in December 2039.  Previously she was listed for January 2040.  No word as to the change.  As we have previously noted, Sytch is currently appealing her sentencing.

Battleground Championship Wrestling's ECW tribute show on Friday 4/5 over Wrestlemania weekend at the 2300 Arena will feature Team 3D vs. Atsushi Onita and a mystery partner, Super Crazy vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri in a rematch from their classic 1999-2000 feud over the ECW World Television Championship, Al Snow vs. Shane Douglas (with Francine) in a rematch from WrestlePalooza '98 and Juventud Guerrera vs. 2 Cold Scorpio.
