DREW MCINTYRE DISCUSSES WRESTLEMANIA MEMORIES, HIS EXCITEMENT ABOUT BEING IN FRONT OF FANS, WHY HE'S FINE WITH GOING ON FIRST - DREW ON ESPN+'S SPORTSNATION RECAP

By Mike Johnson on 2021-04-10 12:25:00

Drew McIntyre appeared on ESPN+'s SportsNation yesterday to promote Wrestlemania 37.

When asked what to expect from the match with Bobby Lashley, he said it would be intensely physical.  They were each in WWE in the 2000s and it didn't really work out for them the first time so they left and fought their way back and had greater success.  Drew won the title first and now Lashley beat him.  They are going to step into the ring and it's going to be "athleticism galore, punches galore, high intensity galore" and then he's going to put his boot in Bobby's face, 1-2-3.

McIntyre was asked what it will feel like when his music hits and he's surrounded by 30,000 fans.  He said he's not worried about the match or the day but he's trying to prepare for the wave of emotions he will feel when he hears that surge of energy from the audience.  He said the fans are unlike anything in the world.  Those fans are going to sound like 400,000 fans and are unlike anything in the world.  He's just trying to prepare himself for it so he can manage that energy.

McIntyre was asked if he'd rather be a headliner or get the first pop in to get it out of the way.  He said he didn't grow up not wanting to be the person on top who closes the show but this year, he'd also be excited to walk out first and be the first one to get that reaction and be the first person to feel that.

He was asked about his favorite Wrestlemania moments.  He said beating Brock Lesnar in five minutes last year is right up there.  As a fan, Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker, The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart.  He said that he was and remains such a huge fan and that's why it's still surreal to him that he's competing for the WWE titlle at Wrestlemania 37.  It's "mental" he's in the main event of the show for the second year in a row.
