WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TONIGHT - THE WWE WRESTLEMANIA 37 NIGHT ONE TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2021-04-09 12:29:00

WWE will present Wrestlemania 37 on Peacock this Saturday and Sunday from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Here’s our take on what will happen.

Night One

WWE Champion Bobby Lashley with MVP vs. Drew McIntyre

Dave: Boy, they have really chopped off Lashley's stones.  A month ago, he was a monster who I thought the fans might cheer against Drew.  Since then, he has become a baby who doesn't want to fight Drew.  They have taken most of the shine off of Lashley so they may as well go all the way and have Drew win the Title back, gaining revenge for Lashley attacking him from behind and costing him the belt in the first place.

Mike: The booking here has been horrible.  They built Lashley as a badass heel, then took away his badassery and his brothers in arms?  I really hope the entire Hurt Business thing was a red herring so they can end up helping him somehow because they all deserved better than they have been used in recent weeks.  Drew was supposed to have his moment a year ago and the world changed and now here he is again, finally, maybe getting that moment, but it feels like putting the belt on him will just cut Lashley off at the knees.  I have seen these two have excellent matches in the past, so I suspect they will do their best, but honestly, there shouldn't be a title change here...so I suspect that will be exactly what happens.

Rich: When the Road to WrestlemaniaT officially started after Royal Rumble, I never expected this to the be match that I cared about the most on the week of Wrestlemania, but they failed so miserably with two other matches, not even Baron Corbin versus Drew McIntyre on the go home Raw could hurt that. I wish this was a Triple Threat Match so Drew or Bobby did not have to take the pin to hurt their momentum coming out of the match, but it will have to happen. Bobby Lashley has been the best booked talent on the main roster (other than the Hurt Business ‘dismissal’ and Corbin stuff) and I think it would be a huge mistake if they took the title off him on Saturday night. This should be a very good match and it will be great to finally give Drew a crowd to watch him in his current role.

Smackdown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair

Dave: This is another match they have really screwed up.  I was looking forward to the "who is better" storyline and they just couldn't help themselves, they had to make Sasha the heel for no real reason.  If it's me, I give Bianca the win and then I see what we have in her as champion.

Mike:  They would have been better off just having Bianca win the Rumble and then showing the two training for Wrestlemania.  That would have been far more captivating.  That said, these two are awesome in the ring.  I think Bianca deserves the moment and Sasha won't be hurt one iota as long as they have a kickass match.  Give them the moment...and the main event of Night One!

Rich: This had the potential to be the best match with the best build on either night but WWE got in its own way. Whether it was the ‘make them tag partners or adding ‘Red Shoes’ Reggie into the mix, this match has lost a lot of its luster. I don’t know why they have gone away from the character they had with Bianca after she won the Royal Rumble and turned her into a heel. I still think they need to give the title to Bianca, but the story set up at the Royal Rumble is a memory. This should be the last match of Night One, but it is not as obvious as it should have been because of the rise of Lashley.

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) vs. AJ Styles and Omos

Dave: Drew says to AJ that he guesses he is coming for him so he can get the Title shot against Lashley at Mania.  AJ says no, he has bigger plans, THE TAG TITLES!  For that reason alone, he and Omos should lose here.

Mike: I predict AJ accidentally hits Omos, so he lays AJ out and New Day retains.  Because, WWE.

Rich: This is a match that really shouldn’t happen. There is no reason why The New Day had to be the Raw Tag Team Champions because you had the Hurt Business (when it was in existence and effective) with the titles and they could have been a dominant tag team. You also have one of the top wrestlers of the current generation and he is excited about wrestling for the TAG TITLES instead of the WWE Championship? The wild card in this match is Omos, who has not had a match on the main roster. Will he be Paul Wight or will he be Giant Gonzalez in the ring? I think we get new tag champs on Saturday night until Silo Omos turns on AJ.

The Miz and John Morrison vs. Bad Bunny and Damian Priest

Dave: You don't book a star from outside of wrestling to be on the show and then have him lose.  The Bunny and Priest get the win here.

Mike: There is ZERO CHANCE Bad Bunny isn't pinning the Miz in the center of the ring.  Whether the match can give Damian Priest the rub is the important question.

Rich: They finally put the final touches on the Rembrandt when Miz and Morrison decided to Earl Scheib Bad Bunny’s Bugatti to make this a tag match. While I don’t expect a Pat McAfee level performance, Bad Bunny looks like he cares about wrestling (and he told us in so much detail on Monday night) and he will not embarrass himself. Priest should do most of the work and then Bad Bunny can get the pin.

Shane McMahon versus Braun Strowman in a Steel Cage Match

Dave: Braun should beat Shane up like a rag doll just because The Sweat Machine equates someone who stutters as being stupid.  That along means he should get destroyed.  And, he should anyway.  I saw that rain was in the forecast for night two.  Well, Sweato will soak the building on night one all by himself.

Mike:  I expect lots of Elias and Ryker climbing the cage and all sorts of shenanigans before Braun finally lays out Shane, who takes a big bump and lands outside, winning. Braun then kills him after.

Rich: If I was not covering this show for the site, the opportunity to see this match live and in person would probably end my enjoyment of professional wrestling. If there are going to be any glitches during the Peacock feed, it can happen during this match. How can this match occur in a steel cage because we will miss out on the ‘LocoBraun’ sounds and how can we have Shane do an elbow off the top of the cage through a table? Braun should win, but does it really help him?

Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro

Dave: A win for Rollins means nothing. A win for Cesaro means everything.  Common sense says Cesaro wins.  Will common sense prevail?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Mike: I concur.  This has to be all about building Cesaro and finally taking him to the next level.  I hope it is.  From a wrestling standpoint, this should be fun as long as they give it time.

Rich: The only thing holding this match back from being the match I care about the most on Saturday’s card is Seth Rollins’ character. They couldn’t change up from the Monday Night Messiah? Cesaro deserves the chance to wrestle in a singles match on Wrestlemania and this should be a very good match as long as it does not get too much time taken from it. The Giant Swing should go at least a minute and Cesaro should get the win. That is why Rollins will probably win the match.

The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan) vs. Lana and Naomi vs. Tamina and Natalya vs. Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke vs. Carmella and Billie Kay in a Number One Contender Match

Dave: I see it being either The Riott Squad or Carmella and Kay.  I think it will be the latter due to Reggie waiting on night two.

Mike: I really was hoping for the IIconics to be put back together.  Unless they swerve us and add Bayley and Flair or something, my gut says Lana and Naomi to close out the storyline.

Rich: Of these five teams, I think the Riott Squad should get the chance at the tag titles. However, since we know that WWE does not book their shows for my personal enjoyment (which is so evident every Monday from 8 to 11), I would assume they are the team pinned. The obvious story is Lana and Naomi winning but we have seen that done so many times that we really don’t need to see it unless they win the titles on Sunday night. Does Billie Kay’s resume say that she is a former tag champion? Will Carmella get a chance to do to Reginald what most of us (well, me) want to do to him? So that means that Natalya and Tamina are going to win and advance to Night Two.
