JON MOXLEY VS. JOSH BARNETT & MORE: 4/8 BLOODSPORT 6 AT GCW COLLECTIVE REPORT

Time for the next installment of GCW’s long-running shoot-fight style wrestling show. Rich Palladino introduces all of our fighters into a lineup on the ring platform. 

Fight 1: Janai Kai vs KZT

Kai with a flying kick to start, KZT grabs the leg and transitions to the back. Kai gets the waist and tries to escape, KZT going for a kimura, steps around to a cross arm breaker. Kai’s grip breaks but she scrambles out of danger. Kai gets space and comes in with strikes in the guard. Kai stacks her and drops more blows while KZT trying to lock her up. KZT gets to the top and wrenching the arm again. Kai stacks her up again and landing kicks, KZT picks the leg and changes forward. Kai with some solid palm strikes to the face. KZT breaks the guard again but Kai transitions back to the guard to drop shots. Kai gets to the feet and hits a stiff kick to the face. KZT is wobbly but makes the takedown again. We get to the edge and the ref stands them up. KZT quickly drags her back down into a triangle....KZT clears the guard, into mount, locks up the wrist and Kai can only tap out. Solid back and forth striker vs grappler here.

Winner: KZT

Fight 2: Matt Makowski vs. Heddi Karaoui

Heddi using his weight to overpower but Makowski is able to reverse it. Matt wants the armbar but Heddi drags up up to throw him down. Heddi with a cross face, pulls it back but Matt slips out. Gator roll but Heddi trying to pick the leg out. Back to the feet, Makowski with a jumping spinning armbar, Heddi grabs the wrist. They both try a rings of saturn. Back to the feet, Makowski lands a few kicks and stuffs a takedown. Hiptoss to the mat and Makowski grabs a leg lock and pulls him into a sharpshooter. Heddi rolls through to his own leg lock. Heddi hits a knee and jerks out Matts shoulder. heddi gets rocked, Makowski rolls through and slams Heddi right into a cross armbreaker. Heddi taps! Super competitive fight here. Good stuff!

Winner: Matt Makowski

Fight 3: Bad Dude Tito vs. Victor Benjamin (w/ Lady Frost)

This is more of a standup fight. Benjamin throwing some leg kicks. Tito checks most of them, dodges a high kick but Benjamin is in full control here. Victor goes high and connects. Tito shifts his gameplan, with a judo takedown. Benjamin gets space and rolls TIto into a rear naked choke. Tito into a north south and trying to lock up the wrists. Victor escapes but Tito picks out the ankle. Back up, Tito with a takedown but Victor pops up with more kicks. Victor tries a spinning kick but flies into Tito’s hands, who drops into a heel hook for the pin. Victor looked good here but Tito was showing his experience on the Bloodsport platform and waited for the right moment.

Winner: Bad Dude Tito

Fight 4: Simon Grimm vs. Alexander James

James is back after a loss to Calvin Tankman in Bloodsport 3. Grimm is always a fan favorite in Bloodsport. Grimm takes the back right away. James comes to the top, drops bombs and attempts a heel hook. Grimm working a stretch muffler but James rolls off the platform. James throwing big strikes, Grimm with a spinning back chop rocks him. James picks up Grimm and drops him to the mat and tries the choke. Grimm works to the top and drops a few shots and lets James to his feet. This is a mistake, Grimm gets rocked with strikes. James with a doctor bomb and a boston crab. Grimm endures and blasts James in the face with a double upkick. Grimm wants the double wristlock, James rolling out and takes mount. James takes the back, drops shots and cranks the arm and shoulder back violently. Grimm’s eyes go wild as he headbutts his way out. Back and forth forearms! Grimms with a kick to the head, knee strikes to the face, suplex to the mat and locks up the kimura for the tapout. This was great!

Winner: Simon Grimm

Fight 5: Alex Coughlin vs. Royce Isaacs

We have a Bloodsport 5 rematch! Coughlin runs to the ring and right into Royce’s face. He wants to get his win, after competing with an injured neck last time. Royce is using Coughlin’s exuberance against him. Royce lets him up to take him down again. Royce wants an arm bar but Alex going for a gutwrench. They’re elbowing the soft spots, Royce gets Coughlin up on his back and slams them down. Back on their feet, Coughlin is swinging wild. Royce with a suplex and tries to wrench the neck back again. Alex reverses it, catches Royce in a slam but he loses control to an arm bar attempt. Alex picks the leg, eats a few up kicks but turns Royce from a standing in heel hook over into a single leg crab. Royce Isaacs taps out! All emotion. This was fun. 

Fight 6: Shlak vs. Superbeast

This is going to be a f***ing brawl. How does SHLAK look small here?!? A few swings but SHLAK grabs the leg out from under Superbeast. Back to the feet, SHLAK throwing knees to the abs. Superbeast with kick and a spinning kick that crumbles SHLAK. SHLAK grabs a front headlock and hitting short punches. Superbeast with a back suplex. SHLAK’s forehead is cut wide open. Superbeast grabs a heel hook, SHLAK starts biting through Superbeast’s boot while blood pours from his forehead. The ref warns SHLAK but he keeps going and the ref calls for the bell. SHLAK WON’T STOP. The referees and fighters spill out of the locker room to break this up. SHLAK is a bloody mess and getting dragged to the back. This was wild. I’m sure this will get run back in a ring with less rules. 

Winner: Superbeast (by DQ)

Fight 7: Allysin Kay vs. Masha Slamovich

Kay is back after failing to win the Bloodsport 2 women’s tournament. Kay goes in early and trying for an armbar. Trading strikes in the seated position. Masha with a head scissors but Kay takes the mount, gets behind and works towards a rear naked choke. Masha gets on top and landing shots but gets rolled into a triangle. Quick head scissor escape and they are rolling through their counters. They get space, Masha with an upkick and spinning hook kick. Kay is turtling and eats a suplex and several shots. Kay shoots up a triangle and throwing strikes into it. Masha is trying to fight out but crumbles and the ref is forced to stop it. Aggressive fight as Kay wants another shot at tournament winner, Lindsay Snow. 

Winner: Allysin Kay

Fight 8: Lio Rush vs. Yoya

This is probably not going to be a music video, huh? ;) Feel out process in high speed. Rush get the leg hooks in after Yoya’s arm triangle attempt. Yoya switches the hooks and striking at the side. Yoya tries to transition to a guillotine but Lio tosses him off. Yoya catches him with a flying knee and swarms with strikes. Lio is covering up! He endures but Yoya going for the rear naked choke. Rush escapes. He wants a German but Yoya holding the post. Rush throws him back and hits a flying kick that staggers him. A pair of brutal suplexes from Rush. Rush landing some cross face shots. Yoya with a short flurry of strikes, Rush returns fire. Yoya grabs the leg and flips Rush out of the ring. Rush runs back in, angry. Yoya with a head and arm triangle on. Rush trying to slam his way out but he’s expending so much energy.....Rush gets him up. Powerbomb! Both guys punching and slapping each other into hamburger. Rush with a standing Spanish fly right into a head and arm choke. Yoya taps out! This was great. Super fast paced and entertaining. 

Winner: Lio Rush

Fight 9: Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. KTB

Smith could have been in the main event but he fell to Moxley at Bloodsport 5. Smith doesn’t want to brawl with the beast and he wraps him up quickly. KTB tries a heel hook but Smith kicks his way out. Smith trying a double wristlock and KTB rolls it off the platform. KTB back in but he’s clutching his arm. Smith with uppercuts to the arm. KTB desperate and goes for the back for a choke. Smith flips into the top and bounding KTB’s head off the mat. Up to the knees and both guys are swinging. Smith pulls him up and kicks out the knee of KTB. Smith pulls him back up and hits a sitout powerbomb. KTB goes limp and the ref stops the fight. Wow. Smith just ran through KTB hard, making his case for staying in the upper levels of the Bloodsport card. Brutal. 

Winner: Davey Boy Smith Jr.

Fight 10: Rocky Romero vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Chaco with a rolling kick at the bell and some clubbing blows. Back to the feet, Rocky wants to box but settles to twist the ankle a little. Into the grapple, Chavo getting the takedown but Rocky trying to rolling to the armbar. Chavo going for the back, he’s got the hooks in but Rocky pops out to top. Dropping strikes as Chavo works up to top but falls into a triangle choke. Chavo wants the powerbomb but Rocky rolls through to an armbar attempt. Chavo gets off the platform to break it up. Back into the fighting area, Rocky wants to lock up Chavo but gets suplexed. Chavo picks the leg but Rocky with a back enziguri. Chavo with a brain buster and Rocky on dream street as Chavo throws blows down to the mat. The ref lets a few shots go through then breaks it up and stops this. Good fight here. Chavo was surprised at the stoppage finish but that’s MMA-style. 

Winner: Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Fight 11: Chris Dickinson vs. Shane Mercer

Dickinson is lose with the kicks but Mercer sends him for a ride down to the mat. Mercer wants the rear naked choke but Dickinson with a suplex and takes side control. Dickinson wants the armbar but the Iron Demon slams him down.....Dickinson uses this to the leg around Mercer’s head. Mercer picks up Dickinson and press slams him into the rear naked choke. Dirty Daddy rolls out of it and throwing knees to the head. Mercer transitions to a leg lock but Dickinson crawls up through it to work the arm again. Dickinson going for a standing wrist lock, Mercer trips him but Dickinson holds on. Mercer’s strength comes into play as he dumps Dickinson on his head. A follow up powerbomb but Dickinson picks the leg and crawls right up into the STF. Mercer dumps Dickinson to the outside to break it. Back in, trading german suplexes. Dickinson with a fast judo throw right into the armbar and it’s DEEP. Mercer holds out but is forced to tap or lose the limb. This ruled. 

Winner: Chris Dickinson

Main Event: Josh Barnett vs. Jon Moxley

It’s taken several shows to come to fruition but it’s finally HAPPENING! Mox tries to take the leg and immediately goes for the back. Barnett is reverses it and goes top, throwing punches to the gut. Mox slides around and takes the back again but working to an armbar. Josh getting desperate and mad, pops up and tries to spin into a knee bar. Mox takes the back again and drops forearms to the back of the head. Mox wants a head and arm choke, Barnett uses his weight to switch the position and tries to take the leg again. Mox stacks it up to drop punches but Barnett grabs an ankle lock. Mox needs a moment to compose himself. Mox shoots for the leg again, Barnett uses the chance to put more pressure on Mox’s ankle. Mox pulls his ankle free and stomps the ribs of Barnett. Barnett pulled up and Mox hits a DDT. Barnett is opened up as Mox starts throwing knees to the head. Mox with a bulldog choke but Josh rolls out of it. Mox with a knee and Barnett falls to the floor. Mox dives out after him. Barnett crawl to the platform but Mox drags him in by his neck. Suplex into a cross face, Mox isolates the head, drops a series of elbows, messing up the mat further. Head and arm choke. Mox is in a frenzy and biting. The ref stops him from doing that. Raining blows but Josh fights to the top and raining elbows to the forehead of Moxley. Moxley eats a lot of punishment and is busted open too. Barnett with a back suplex and Moxley crashes to the floor himself. They are GUSHING. Back in, Barnett with punches in the clinch. Suplex but Moxley back up trying for the DDT again. Barnett with a DVD! Moxley won’t quit. barnet grabs the arm and lands a dozen unprotected stomps to the head before the ref calls it off. Moxley is punch drunk and still trying to fight, even though his legs are wobbly. Moxley wants to keep going but he can’t stay on his feet. CRAZY FIGHT. Moxley gets his legs and shakes the hand of Josh Barnett. This was one of the best Bloodsport fights ever. Handshake and an embrace between these bloody warrior. Fantastic. Did it live up to the hype? ABSOLUTELY.

Winner: Josh Barnett (by stoppage)

Barnett thanks Moxley for sticking through this. “You tried to kill me!” Shouts Moxley. “What did you expect me to do?” Says Barnett. Barnett promises that if the people want more Bloodsport, they will get more Bloodsport. Moxley grabs the mic (since he’s the one people paid to see, wink wink) and thanks everyone in the crowd and in the back for sticking with this. Awesome.
