GCW: The Acid Cup 3 (Day 1)

4/8/21 - 3pm

Tampa, FL - Streaming on FITE.tv

Today is Day 1, the first round of GCW’s 16-person Acid Cup single-elimination tournament! We are back outside, hopefully the sun is a LITTLE less harsh on this show.

Match 1: Colby Corino vs. Calvin Tankman

Handshake and we kick off. Corino wants the leg but Tankman says no. They scramble and trade the holds, Corino with some aggressive kip ups to show off. Tankman feeds him some big ol’ chest slaps that crumble him to the mat. Tankman is swinging heavy but Corino hits enziguri’s. He tries a DVD but collapses under Tankman’s weight. Corino eats a huge forearm that rag dolls him to the mat. Huge splash from the tank. Mannnnnn. Corino struggling to his feet but fights out of a powerbomb and lands a hangman’s double stomp and downwards kick for two. Tankman ain’t dead, goes for the screwdriver but eats a knee to the head. Running elbows and dropkicks from Corino. Roaring superkick and a Samoan drop on Tankman! Pop up elbow and a backfist to the back of the head from Calvin. Kick out! Big sitout tombstone from Tankman and Corino is down for the count.

Winner: Calvin Tankman

Looks like we have a slight delay while the crew is checking the integrity of the ring, which might be broken. We get a camera under the ring and watch the crew assess the damage and shuffle the boards. Looks like we’re good to go!

Match 2: Laredo Kid vs. Brayden Lee

Show of respect to kick it off. Brayden trying to work the wrist lock but Laredo Kid is working a tight headlock. Brayden has one of his own that Kid needs to escape from. Fighting out to the apron, reversals on reversals, Brayden with a popup gut buster for two. Brayden is stalking the weakened Kid, whip to the corner, running into a back elbow and a superkick. Lee powders and Laredo is cut off trying a triangle dive. Lee to the top and hits a 450, kick out! Kid hits a high angle moonsault off the 2nd. Kid landing shots to the face but Lee drops and hits a running shooting star. Lee off the top and walks into a flip ddt. Brayden goes to the top again but Laredo Kid catches him and hits a FLIP GERMAN SUPLEX off of there for the pin. WAAAAAOOOOOW.

Winner: Laredo Kid

Match 3: Dragon Bane vs. KTB

KTB is trying to stay ahead of the quick Dragon Bane but his reversals are getting run through. KTB finally catches a sitout powerbomb to stop him. Rolling spear in the corner but only a two. Dragon Bane with a series of shots stuns the beast, handspring back elbow, jumps to the top rope for a moonsault to the concrete on KTB. Spanish Fly to KTB, but the Beast hits one of his own. Bane with a poisonrana and they’re both dead. Trading shots on the rise. Trading running elbows. KTB with a powerbomb knee for two. Bane drops the the Beast one more time and hits a shooting star off the top for the victory!

Winner: Dragon Bane

Match 4: Jordan Oliver vs. Edith Surreal

Oliver is coming off a victory over Everett Connors. Surreal had an absolute war in her failed attempt to dethrone IWTV champ Lee Moriarty earlier today. Oliver loves a good grappling contest and Edith is giving him a fight on that stage, wrapping up the arms with her long legs. Edith with a missile dropkick for two. Edith wraps up the legs and head for another painful submission attempt. Rolling through into various pin attempts, Oliver wraps up a head scissors to wear her down. She grabs a headlock, Oliver pushes off and hits a dropkick. We spill to the floor and Oliver posts her. Back in the graps, Edith is wrenching at the neck and shoulder. Oliver reverses into a pin attempt up to a surfboard stretch. Edith almost secures a pin the same way Lee Moriarty beat her. Crosscutter Bulldog from Edith. More pin attempts, Oliver stuns with a knee to the face and a rebound big boot to the face to get the pin. This was a creative grappling chess match but that final kick was the one big shot needed to end it.

Winner: Jordan Oliver

Match 5: Lee Moriarty vs. JJ Garrett

Garrett is subbing in for Treehouse Lee, who had transportation issues today. Lee isn’t fazed by the change up and picks the ankle of Garret out, forcing him to retreat. Lee working over the arm, which is causing Garrett to have trouble making the comeback when trying to whip him.  The heat is no joke and Garrett takes a swig of water. Garrett lands some clubs to the back but Lee flips out, foot meets chin, feet meet neck with a dropkick. Garrett scrambles to the corner and he starts throwing that water up. Ref stops the match immediately and throws the X. OH Nooooooo.

Winner: Lee Moriarty (by stoppage)

Match 6: Arez vs. Aramis

Handshake of respect. Immediate grappling on the mat, each trying to wrap up the other in creative ways. Flipping out of the engagement, Aramis with a shove and they trade pin attempts quickly. Very evenly matched but unique holds and entertaining pin styles here. Every break in the action, the crowd is standing and clapping for this. Trading head scissors, Aramis hits a pair of superkicks and a bullet of a tope suicida that staggers Arez back on the floor. Arez with a gory special into a hot shot. Springboard double stomp for two. Arez blocking strikes with kicks. Arez eats a high kick, victory roll into a rana. Rolling german pin attempt from Aramis, kick out! Trading strikes in the center, Arez with a twister stretch into the ropes. Aramis with a drive by knee. Arez blasts Aramis with a knee but goes down himself. The ref is checking on Arez as Aramis recovers. The ref is doing a 10-count and Arez makes it. Aramis targeting the knee but they drop each other after a fast strike battle. Aramis with a pump handle knee lift.  Airplane spin into a blue thunder bomb and Arez kicks out. Aramis with seated kicks to the head. Arez with more knees, northern lights suplex and Aramis is down for the three. This almost went sideways but I saw a lot of new ways you can stretch a man in the last 10 minutes. Cool stuff. The crowd throws money to these guys. Well deserved.

Winner: Arez

Tony Deppen was held up in traffic so Cole Radrick makes this an open challenge. It’s answered by BOTH Ellis Taylor and Jimmy Lloyd. Cole says make it a triple threat!

Match 7: Jimmy Lloyd vs. Cole Radrick vs Ellis Taylor

Cole dumps Lloyd out. Gory buster on Taylor to the apron. He goes back after Jimmy but Lloyd puts him into the seats. Lloyd blasted with a disaster kick off the apron. Cole and Taylor going shot for shot at ringside. Radrick drags him back but Jimmy cuts him off. Cole with a double dropkick and a kip up. Bulldog and lariat combo almost secures the win. He comes running an a seated Jimmy, who catches him in a DVD through a chair. Taylor with a poisonrana to Lloyd. He goes to the top but Cole cuts him off. Cole with a springboard stunner to Lloyd. Cole with a gutwrench package powerbomb for the pin on Taylor. This was chaos but exactly what you’d expect from a sudden triple threat.

Winner: Cole Radrick

Main Event: AJ Gray vs. Nate Webb

Gray is all over Webb’s arms and neck in the grapple. Webb has to go for the rope to get space back. Webb and Gray trading strikes and verbal barbs, they go wild and Gray clubs the Spider down. Spills out to the floor, trading chops and kicks to the chest. Suplex to the concrete by Webb, who immediately blasts a chair off Gray’s back. AJ returns the favor and adds a chair to the throat to the bill. We’re setting up a door on chairs in the ring. Gray wants to take him off the top, Webb sends him to the mat and a double stomp for two. AJ sabu’s him, Webb slips a razor’s edge and spears Gray through a door! A tribute to B-Boy with a facelift dropkick in the corner for two. Webb to the top, Gray hits an enziguri and superplexes him down. Kick out! Webb stumbles to his feet and comes in contact with an AJ Gray lariat. Gray pulls him up for another lariat and again for an Emerald Fusion. Webb is down for this count. Good friends went to war here but Gray needed that space to get those big lariats into the fight. Gray is a favorite to take this whole thing.

Winner: AJ Gray
