Beyond Wrestling “Uncharted Territory: Episode 1”

4/3/19 Worcester, MA

It’s the first show of Mania week and the debut show of Beyond’s new weekly live series, streaming every Wednesday on IndependentWrestling.TV. Tonight’s show features a battle between David Starr and the legendary Masato Tanaka, who has several contests lined up throughout the week. Another featured bout puts fan favorites Team Pazuzu against SoCal Uncensored. On top of that, Beyond has promised the debut of a “Discovery Gauntlet” match on this episode.

Match 1: Team Pazuzu (Chris Dickinson & LAX) vs SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)

WHAT AN OPENER. Santana and Kazarian go back and forth with some chain grappling until there’s a cute spot where they tag their opposing partners. Sky’s in with Ortiz, attempts a monkey flip but you can’t flip Monkey, and Sky eats a sitout face buster instead. Daniels gets some brief heat on Ortiz but Dickinson tags in and starts chopping down the Fallen Angel. Back and forth chain pin attempts until all hell breaks loose. Dickinson is isolated and SCU goes to work on the Dirty Daddy with triple teams. Dickinson breaks loose of a chi lock, hitting a power slam on Daniels. Ortiz tags in to clean house. Near fall on Kazarian after a 2nd rope dropkick. Daniels with a near fall after a northern lights suplex on Ortiz into a bridge pin on Santana. Dickinson with a piledriver on Daniels and a plank splash from Ortiz for a close two. Chaos ensues, ton of big shots dropping everyone. Daniels hits the angels wings on Dickinson. LAC cleans house. Max wiped out Santana with a cutter. Dickinson goes to make the save but David Starr hits the ring to interfere and Dickinson takes the bait, giving chase and allowing Kazarian to get the pin on Ortiz.

Winners: SCU

Match 2: MJF vs Kimber Lee

The crowd instantly greets MJF with a rousing chorus of “You Are My Sunshine”. MJF runs the crowd and Kimber down before the bell, suggesting she’s been replaced in the hearts of Beyond’s crowd by Kris Statlander. Kim starts heated but MJF keeps taking the advantage and holding it with his particular brand of cheating and arrogant misogyny. Kim takes it back with a loud kick to the head but whiffs a moonsault. MJF uses the ref as a distraction and hits Lee with a hangman’s piledriver for the quick pin. This was a showcase for what a jerk MJF can be but Kim was total cannon fodder here.

Winner: MJF

Beaver Boys are out for their open challenge. They promise they will win their match, unlike EYFBO did. Ahead of their debut next week, Aussie Open is here to answer the challenge!

Match 3: The Beaver Boys (Jon Silver & Alex Reynolds) vs Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis)

Fletcher works over Reynolds early, taunting Silver with his power. Silver tags in to get a taste but Davis tags in and we have a hoss stare down. Davis starts wiping out both Beaver Boys with loud chops. Near fall on Silver after some tandem offense from the Aussies. Reynolds intercepts Fletcher going for a dive, allowing Silver to powerbomb him across Reynolds’ knees. Yow! Silver goes to work with stiff kicks. They pull Fletcher’s hair several times to keep him grounded in the wrong corner several times until Davis is able to tag in, slamming the Tag Aces around with ease. Near fall from a tandem toss-up cutter from the top on Reynolds. Near fall on Davis after a powerbomb/diving legdrop combo. The Boys hit a flurry of strikes and slams on Fletcher for a close two. Davis in to powerbomb Silver with one arm. Wow! Aussie Open hits a flipping razor’s edge-like slam on Silver for a near fall. Davis is kicked out of the ring. A tandem suplex destroyer and their cradle driver seal the victory, laying out Fletcher for the three. This was really good stuff.

Winners: The Beaver Boys

They announce the next match is the first round in their weekly Discovery Gauntlet. The winner of this match comes back next week.

Match 4: “The Rapscallion” Mick Moretti vs “Fight or Flight” Gabriel Skye

A newly shaved Mick Moretti is a delightful madman, cackling with glee as he wears down Gabriel Skye and keeping him off balance with his oddness. Skye gets a few shots in, reversing offense, throwing kicks and getting a near fall on a slingshot suplex. Moretti comes back and gets the pin with a pumphandle suplex. Fast and fun and we’ll see who the Rapscallion faces next week.

Winner: Mick Moretti

Match 5: Kris Statlander vs AR Fox (w/ Ayla Fox)

Fox won’t do Statlander’s finger touch of sportsmanship. They go back and forth with their athletic offense, flipping and dodging their way out of danger. Some quick interference from Ayla and Fox takes the advantage with chops and a high-angle cutter. Statlander evades again and hits a loud enziguri to slow down AR. It’s short lived and we have another near fall from an AR Fox rolling cutter. Electric chair facebuster from Statlander and Ayla has to break up the pin. Kris chases Ayla from the ring but eats a coast-to-coast drop kick and senton on the way back in. Kick out! Fox lays in a pair of head kicks to a downed Statlander but gets rolled up when attempting a third one. Statlander wins!

A frustrated Fox goes for some retribution but Kimber Lee cuts him off and sends him packing. She raises Statlander’s hand and promptly lays her out. Looks like MJF managed to get into her head with those comments earlier. Good bit of storytelling here!

Winner: Kris Statlander

On Twitter, Kimber pulls herself from her tag match as Statlander’s partner in tomorrow’s IWTV Family Reunion show. Next chapter starts at noon tomorrow, it would seem!

The mystery partners match is up next! Jordynne Grace brings out Brian Cage! Orange Cassidy brings out.....SESSION MOTH MARTINA. Oh holy hell.

Match 6: Jordynne Grace & Brian Cage vs Orange Cassidy & Session Moth Martina

Martina can’t stop grinding on Orange and Ref Quinn. Moth wears herself out trying to dive on Jordynne. Orange revives her with some beer. Cassidy tags in and we get a bunch of shenanigans around his unwillingness to wrestle with his hands out of his pockets, even when taking a 30-count stalking vertical suplex from Cage. Moth tries to save Orange with a crossbody but she bounces off Cage’s pecs. Orange finally takes his hands out of his pockets to kick out of a double pin attempt. Martina and Orange hit Cage with a backpack senton for a close two. Martina with a head butt to Jordynne and they are both down. Cassidy reverses a suplex into a stunner, hits a suplex of his own for a near fall on Cage. Cassidy goes for the orange mist but gets his partner. Jordynne hits a fisherman’s driver for the pin on the IWTV Champion. Fun ridiculous contest that the crowd was into.

Winners: Jordynne Grace & Brian Cage

Mick Moretti is out to be interviewed by a well-dressed Cam Zagami. He runs the crowd down for being ignorant of his greatness and his Australian countrymen will have to forgive him for not returning home to them. He proclaims he will stay here as long as the Gauntlet runs.

Announcer Rich Palladino announces that July 28th is the official date for Americanrana 19 is happening....AT FOXWOODS RESORT CASINO IN CONNECTICUT. What?!?

Main Event: David Starr vs Masato Tanaka

Chris Dickinson faces Tanaka later in the weekend but Starr requested this match specifically to steal his thunder. They grapple through the lockup for position, trading holds and trying to wear each other down. Starr starts working the ankle and taunting Tanaka for needing rope breaks to escape. This infuriates Tanaka who leaps from hold to hold with ease and keeps Starr down with strikes and stomps. A DDT to the apron and they are battling on the floor with chops until Starr unloads a face buster on the house speakers. Tanaka fires back up in the ring and rages all over Starr with strikes, whips, lariats and a huge swinging DDT. Starr with a cartwheel kick and a suplex neckbreaker for a close two. Tanaka wants more. It’s a strike battle in the center of the ring! Tanaka no-sells a lariat with one of his own that leaves Starr drooling. Tanaka goes for the kill but Starr pulls the ref in the way. He hits a powerbomb backbreaker but the ref is still down. Starr’s got a chair! He teases an unprotected shot to the head but kicks him in the groin instead. Penelope Ford is at ringside! Joey Janela is here! Janela kicks Starr in the nethers. He tosses the chair to Tanaka, who destroys Starr’s head with it. Chris Dickinson is here with Ref Kevin Quinn to make the three count after a running knee! What a finish!

Winner: Masato Tanaka

What a first episode! Good to great matches throughout and a ton of good storytelling. Can’t wait to see how this plays out over the weeks See you next week for Anthony Greene vs Gangrel, SADKAMPF vs Aussie Open and the next round of the Discovery Gauntlet!
