COMPLETE IMPACT WRESTLING EDDIE EDWARDS CONFERENCE CALL COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2018-01-25 10:03:00

Impact Wrestling held a media call this morning with former Impact champion Eddie Edwards to promote tonight's Genesis branded episode of Impact on Pop TV.

Ross Forman welcomed everyone to the call and brought Edwards on.

Edwards recapped his injury from the Impact Wrestling tapings last week, noting he was hit in the face with a baseball bat.  He has a small fracture by his eye and a small one on his nose as well as a "pretty sweet" black eye and some cuts.  He was told after a CT scan that he wouldn't need surgery and is almost at the point where his vision returned to normal.  They played up the idea of Edwards getting revenge on Sami Callihan and OVE.

Edwards was asked about the change from the six-sided ring back to the traditional four sided ring.  He said he's used to working in one and aside from Impact, he always worked in a traditional ring so it wasn't anything new to him.  He said the roster is ready to perform no matter what the ring is.

Edwards was asked if he'll be returning to Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.  He said there are no set plans but he's always in conversation with them and wants to go back over.  Winning the Global Honored Crown Heavyweight championship was one of his career goals and he's proud to have accomplished that.

He was asked about his wife Alisha working for Impact and what the experience was like and her status with Impact going forward.  She is still with the company and will return soon.

I asked Edwards about his contractual status with the company, as his deal is set to expire his next month.  He said Impact has been his home for the last few years and "would be his home for the forseeable future."

Edwards played up his storyline goals of wanting revenge on OVE and Sami Callihan, but still wanting another Impact Wrestling championship run.

Edwards was asked about a conversation with Sami Callihan after the baseball bat incident.  He said they had words but didn't given much in the way of details.

I asked Edwards about the difference in working in front of the Canadian fans vs. Orlando.  He said that it's great to work in front of newer fans that haven't seen them before.  He said that when you work in front of jaded fans, it's tougher but when you work in front of fans that love wrestling and react to everything, it's special. It's hard to break it down.

Edwards was asked if he and his wife watch and break down each other's matches.  They try to watch each other's matches as much as they can but at tapings, it's sometimes impossible.  They are partners in life and are striving to make each other better.

When he got hit with the bat, he grabbed his eye and rolled out of the ring, hoping that his eye was still in the socket and not in his hand or in the ring.

He was asked about Bobby Lashley leaving and his memories of working with him.  He said that Lashley was the man and he loved working with him, although he felt it the next day.

Becoming Impact champion was part of his goals when he came to the title, as was winning the Tag belts with Davey Richards and he was thankful he was able to do all that.

Edwards was asked about the importance of Impact working with other companies.  He said they were very important to open the door for events people never thought they would see and to have matches they ever expected to see.  Without the working relationship, he never woud have had the chance to return to NOAH.

Edwards said that the return of Austin Aries is a big thing for Impact.  He said Austin has stepped his game up and to have him come back with a new generation of stars gives them so many fresh matches.  He praised Aries as one of the best in the ring and on the mic right now.

Edwards was asked about working at the Hardy compound.  He joked that he never expected to be blown up by a volcano wrestling Bobby Lashley, but he's glad he did.

Edwards was asked about training under Killer Kowaski.  He said that everything had to be real - you were all in or all out - and that's something that Edwards carried with his over the course of his career.  Kowalski was first there and last out and that's something he's tried to emulate as well.  He was a great man and a great teacher and he's very missed.

Edwards was asked ho he'd rank the Wolves among tag teams in history.  He said that wasn't up to him,  He said its first in his heart and mind, but it's not up to him to make that determination.

He was asked about wrestling for Impact in India.  He said they were embraced by the fans and he tried to do that as well, including eating the food.  He said he got sick towards the end of the tour but would be happy to go back again.  He joked Sonjay could be a better tour guide.

I asked Eddie about all the changes within the company.  He said he just has to concentrate on what he's doing in the ring and just worry about that.  When people leave, that means others are coming in and that means new people to work with.

Edwards was asked about his interest in working in a creative end or training others.  He said he wouldn't want anything to effect his work in the ring and he doesn't know he could balance that.  He'd like to do some training down the line, but right now wants to concentrate on what he's doing inside the ring.

When asked about talents he'd like to be in the ring with that he's never worked, he named Alberto el Patron as someone he's always wanted to work with.

He praised the process that Davey Richards has gone through to push himself in medicine and fire fighting and working as an EMT. He said Richards is saving lives and he's grateful he's doing what he's doing.  Eddie said he misses him.

Edwards was asked how to have to change as you get older as a performer.  He said you have to rehab and be preventative after wrestling.  You have to be smarter and take care of your body the best you can.  Some things are unavoidable, like getting hit in the face with a baseball bat, but you have to be smart.  He doesn't want to be finished anytime soon and the longer he can go, the better.

Edwards said he can still feel the bat hitting him in the eye and it wasn't pleasant.  He went into storyline mode saying he wanted to get some revenge and payback.
