NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING PRIMER: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR TONIGHT'S PPV

Kenny Omega

“The Cleaner” Kenny Omega is Bullet Club’s newest member and has said he is in NJPW to “clean up” the junior heavyweight division. The Canadian has spent the majority of his career in Japan with DDT while making sporadic appearances for NJPW over the years.

Omega recently signed with NJPW full time and gave up his squeaky clean image to join NJPW’s foreign villains, The Bullet Club. Omega is also fluent in Japanese and resides in Japan.

Omega can easily be considered one of the finest junior heavyweight wrestlers in the world and has an amazing body of work to prove it. In DDT he became known for matches with a 9 year old girl and a blow up doll, which brings new meaning to the phrase “he could get a broomstick over”.

Omega is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight tag team champion with Golden Lovers partner Kota Ibushi and has regularly taken part in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament since 2010.

Omega has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be considered a top gaijin wrestler, he wants to be seen on the level of top Japanese wrestlers. Since joining Bullet Club Omega has surprised people while adopting a persona similar to that of something from a 1980’s action movie. Omega has been hamming it up and has fit right in with the renegade group after years of being the respectful Japanese speaking foreigner in DDT and NJPW.

On January 4th, Omega gets his chance to clean up his division as he gets his shot at Ryusuke Taguchi’s IWGP junior heavyweight championship.

What to look out for?

Omega has an explosive array of moves that you won’t see from anyone else. His style is obviously very Japanese influenced after his years competing in the junior heavyweight division. His most notable moves are Aoi Shoudou, which is a firemans carry into a sit down pin similar to Chris Sabin’s cradle shock. Also Croyt’s Wrath which is a firemans carry into a German Suplex and the Hadouken which is a double palm thrust. Keep an eye out for his frighteningly quick dragon suplex variations and his dives over the top rope. Everything Omega does look flawless and stands out from the crowd.
