Big Show followed up with a chokeslam and a cover, and Vince counted the pin to give Big Show his first WWF Championship.

Blue Meanie & Kaientai (Taka Michinoku & Sho Funaki) were scheduled to compete on Big Show’s team, but he attacked all three on Sunday Night Heat prior to the pay-per-view and wrestled the match alone...."Stone Cold" Steve Austin was originally scheduled to compete in the main event, but could not participate due to injury. The Big Show replaced him in the match. Vince McMahon was originally announced as the guest referee for the match.

NOTES: This show exemplified the idea of "bait-and-switch," as the WWF knew weeks before the pay-per-view that Steve Austin would not be able to compete in the main event due to injury, but continued to promote the match anyway. Then, during the pay-per-view (and once fans had already spent their money), they ran the angle where Austin was lured into the parking garage by Triple H and run down by a car to explain the change to the main event. Moreover, the WWF plugged Big Show, who had defected from WCW nine months early and was not over with the WWF fans, into the main event, and gave him the win and his first WWF Championship, starting a mediocre seven week title reign.....Jim Ross & Jerry "The King" Lawler did commentary for the event. Carlos Cabrera and Hugo Savinovich did Spanish commentary. Michael Cole, Kevin Kelly, & Lillian Garcia handled backstage interviews. Howard Finkel was the ring announcer....Promotional materials for the event featured The Rock.

Buck Woodward: I popped for Moolah pinning Ivory. ... I was shocked when they didn't run an angle to get Austin out of the main event on Heat, and instead waited until the PPV to do so. That was just really slimy. They knew Austin wouldn't be able to work, but led everyone on. ... Poor Meanie and Kaientai. They weren't even allowed to go to the ring for this one. ... To be honest, nothing else stands out on this show to me. I was glad to see the Team concepts used again.

Mike Johnson: The Austin angle was pretty dumb, but WWF didn't care about not delivering what they advertised at the time....the most important thing to come out of the show was the debut of Kurt Angle, who from day one, was a superstar. It was great....Whatever happend to Planet Stasiak?....The Big Show's title reign was going so well, the belt was on Triple H within a few weeks.
